I think I'm going to build a pair of Pass Aleph 2's. I've always lusted after these amps, now you can build your own $6800 amps for just a few hundred dollars!

I recently built a 10" ported HT sub for a house warming gift. It had a 180W plate amp and was tuned to 23Hz. The driver used was a Dayton MKII from Parts Express.

I have a chip amp right next to me that I'm building based on Brian's gainclone cards from www.diyaudio.com This project has been on th eback burner for months. I should really finish it

My next couple projects involve Silver Flute Speakers.

Hmm....I wonder if I could build a version of that chip amp for my car to run a set of Dyns. I dunno.....it doesn't look up to mobile specs, I think heat and vibration would kill it. Plus I'd have to figure out the power supply and a different power toroid.

Hey Mattjk or anyone who knows anything about record players.

I recently purchased a Crosley CR-49 record player off of eBay. I just got it on Saturday plugged it in turned it on but it would not turn the record. You can hear the arm clicking to engage the motor, but the motor never starts. I emailed the seller and they said it worked when it left their shop, they did not state if they had tried the motor or not. I was just wondering if you have any idea on what I could check to see if I can fix it myself.

Pull out the motor and see if it spins. If it doesn't then I guess you have to get a replacement.

audio noob here.

but Mattjk could you suggest a system (speakers, amps, cdplayer)for me that would be around 1k. Im not sure what I want in terms of different amps and what not. I just want something basic that will blow away anything retail store bought.

I would highly recommend building the Gainclone amp. If you have no basic knowledge of electronics, find someone that can help you in your area. This will get you a killer sounding integrated for less than $135 (45 for the gainclone kit, around $65 for the transformer, and $35 for case, volume pot, wires, and connectors)

For a CDplayer, I recommend the ES line of sony SACD players. You can pick up a used 222 or 333 ES SACD changer on ebay for less than $200. Awesome sound. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...724769129&rd=1

For speakers, I really like the Tannoy Mercury bookshelves, and the larger Paradigm's. You'll have to listen for yourself. The amp and cdplayer are both economical, leaving you with the most money to put into your speakers. You will however need fairly efficient speakers for the Gainclone.

Whats the specs on the Gainclone?

as for monitors... I got me a pair of these back when they came out... best purchase since my adcom GFA555

the combo of the 2 is quite impressive tho I lack a good source these days
