Anyone ever use neutral shoe polish as under body protectant?
I was using kiwi neutral shoe polish this weekend as a release agent for working with jb weld. I noticed it is the same consistency as the waxy underbody coating that is used by Subaru and a complete nightmare to remove once dried. I might try using it next spring after I clean up the underbody of my 02.

you are kidding, right???? shoe polish......under the car....as protectant this is one of the strangest things i have seen posted here, ever. even if you could figure out a way to apply it to such a large area....maybe you could melt it and spray it on hot...... you would need dozens and dozens of cans if you are this ambitious and want something that is MADE specifically for this purpose....there are several products i would buy and use and forget shoe polish I would use LPS3 and forget shoe polish http://www.lpslabs.com/product_pg/co...n_pg/LPS3.html |

I should have been more specific, I know that it isn't very feasible to apply this to the entire underside of a car. I was thinking more so for the sub frames and exposed parts of the suspension such as the control arms. I have used that LPS stuff before and it is nowhere near as thick as the oem wax undercoating that subaru uses.
Subaru's service manual spells out the spots under the car that is uses Bitumen wax as a rust preventative. I think that the shoe polish is carnuba. Last edited by 2gnt2wrx; 02-04-2013 at 01:14 PM. |
