Now, yes, there is a lot more difference here; but, this is how I feel when people compare an Impreza "look" to a Corolla.

For performance driving DSG is leagues better than CVT, but that Nissan's CVT on their Maxima was not too bad because it felt like a planetary gearbox. I think CVT is better than DSG on a normal everybody car.. just smoother overall.
Both Civic and S3 look like economy cars with emphasis on donkey short for S3.. Civic is okay because it is an economy car, it's not supposed to look expensive. If I had to carry clients in my own car in my line of work and if I was to choose a sedan from Audi, it would be a 2020 dark silver A6. |

You're talking performance not droning creep of stop and go traffic. Honda doesn't use CVT in their sporty offerings. Audi dropped theirs completely.

Corolla: They look nothing alike. One is red and the other is white. Seriously though, the impreza looks like an updated ****box rental from 1990 and the Corolla is butt ugly. |

The Impreza put me to sleep when the first images came out. Corolla hatchback is actually decent looking.

If Oldsmobile still sold cars, their ****box offering would look like that Impreza.

Pretty much. Dare I say the Corolla hatchback is a pretty handsome compact? At the very least the styling is current. Ironic that the latest Impreza mimics the anonymous Corollas of the past. Unfortunately consumers don't expect anonymous styling out of a Subaru hence the abysmal Impreza sales this generation.

Won't really argue that. I personally like this design Impreza better than any previous one; but, it certainly isn't any sort of contender for best looking car. I happen to really like the current Corolla though.

06/07 was the best looking Impreza.

I owned a 2006 Impreza with one of those AR noses. That is actually what I liked about that car,... haha. I thought they went backwards when they switched to that plain jane grille in 2008. Now that Tribeca was a different story. Somehow it just didn't look right on that car.

My first STi was an 06, so maybe I'm a bit biased, but I thought the pig nose was a handsome devil. It was probably the last time I was okay with flamboyant styling.

IMO 06/07 looked better than the 04/05 STI/WRX or older bug eyes. It just looked a bit weird on the regular Imprezas.

Haha as someone who returned the Impreza for a Corolla Hybrid, I can say the ugly looks of the Corolla took a while for me to get used to, but now I like it. I'm used to butt ugly styling thanks to the GD days don't get me wrong, I loved the styling of the GD's and my 06 wrx, but it really was technically ugly!

Current Corolla hatch is pretty hawt and even the sedan is way better looking than the previous gen. Definitely would take either over a current Impreza.
Current Legacy is hotter than all IMO, albeit of course in a completely different segment. |

My Corolla Hybrid gets that uglier bumper, but at least the Premium package we get up here in Canada adds a lot of upper trim interior features that Impreza doesn't have at the same price point. |

I am talking about DSG not being very smooth during normal driving in AT mode unless driven very gently for fuel economy. It keeps wanting to early shift up to save gas, and the downshifts are not smooth. It's acceptable if driving hard, but there are better dual clutch (PDK) and planetary (ZF) out there. I mentioned this multiple times but I had a MK7 GTI Autobahn with DSG and I hated that thing after a while because of the DSG and it being FWD. Unless Audi magically put a better DSG in the S3 (which is basically a Golf-R in sedan form) it's the same. I never liked the DSG in the Golf-R either, thus mine is MT. No issue with the clutch with my mild power increase with AP Stage1 high boost. It's easily faster than my STI AP Stage1+. I was sad to hear the Mk8 Golf-R only comes DSG. I'll have to pass. |

I actually thought the DSG in my Golf R was pretty refined and smooth for the most part. Not as smooth as a ZF8 but it was very rare to have any of the clunks on the 1-2 shift of early DCT's. There was never a time in ownership that I was bothered at all by its behavior. As good as the ZF8 is it still can't replicate the drama of a DCT when driving aggressively.
