Subaru Banner Impreza WRX STI to Participate in 24-Hour Race at Nürburgring

Fuji Heavy Industries and Subaru Tecnica International will enter its Subaru Impreza WRX STI in the 36th ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race, which will be held at the Nürburgring circuit this May.

Approximately 200 cars, mostly European, participate each year in the world's most notable endurance race. The course is 25.378km long. The STI will be minimally modified - lightened and safety features will be added - and will be placed in the SP6 class (3.0-3.5 liter displacement as turbochargers/superchargers account for 1.7 times the actual displacement).

FHI and STI look at this race as a chance to learn about safety, reliability, and technical know-how and make use of it in the development of their mass production cars. With Subaru Tecnica International and Prova at the core, team "Subaru NBR Challenge" is formed.

It'd be nice to test with the 2.5 engine but I guess that would put them in the over 4.0 liter class.

I'm aware of that. the 2.0 is a far superior motor compared to the ****ty "world motor" 2.5l. They had the choice to use what they wanted since the STi sold in Germany is the 2.5 but choose to use the 2.0. I'm assuming thats due to durability issues. The 207 is bombproof.

The program is still being run by Subaru of Japan. Japanese backing, Japanese management, Japanese drivers. So it makes sense that they would use... a Japanese market car. I don't think there's anything to be read into it.

How bombproof can it be if it still has hypereutectic cast pistons like the 257?

If we want "bomb proof" we should use the 2.2t closed deck motor from the early 90s... but we are talking current cars and I believe it's due to FHI backing on this project.
