Default Help me get tires and rims!!!

I got in an accident last week and jsut got back from the delearship after going over the invoice.

They were going to order 4 new RE92's at 173.00 a piece

And

I need 3 new rims.. they were going to order 3 stock 16" rims for 320 a piece

that's about 1600 dollars. i told them to cancel those orders ASAP

PLease help me spend that 1600 wisely.

how can I use that 1600 to get better tires (very important) and if possible some nice 17" rims? There's so much out thre it's overwhelming trying to figure out what I want. In terms of tires all I can say is im from columbus ohio and so I see a decent amount of rain and some snow in the winter months.

How much do aftermarket rims usually go for and whats the difference in lower end rims and high-end rims? materials? weight?

help a brotha out!

Get yourself some 98-01 RS rims. They're 1/2 inch wider than the WRX in 16". Then get some Azenis sports in 215-45-16. You might find someone selling the entire package for around $400-$500 used....otherwise good shape wheels are $400 a set and tires about $400 new. The wheels are very light, the tires are nice and sticky and last just fine (I've had them on 2 cars). The wheels fit over 4 pot calipers if you're inclined to spend about $600 on them. You'll still be under that $1600!

Or check out rota wheels at Subydude

550 - 650 for a nice set of 17" wheels, with many styles & colors to choose from.

www.tires.com for a good price on tires, but don't plan on using azenis sports in the snow, look for an all season performance tire.

he's got $1600 to spend and ur telling him to get stock rims?
maybe u didnt pay attention to his post, but he prefers 17s and he WILL see snow.

pick a set of 17s of ur choice under $1000 and get some Pilot sports A/S, then u'll be all set

so whats the difference between 600-700 dollar ROTAs and the more expensive rims.. the Rota Sub-zeros seem like badass rims.

I was thinking of a package from subydude.

I see the Sub-Zeros are aorund 600 bucks. does subydude not have prices for tires?

how about ROTA Sub-zeros and FALKEN Ziex ZE-512? those seem like they would be a good tire for my situation?

anyone have an estimate how much that combo with lugnuts/shipping would be?

One more thing: i see that subydude will mount/balance the wheels/tires for me.. Now im guessing that if the dealership would have bought stock rims/potenzas they would have to do the mounting/balancing themselves?

will I most likely save some money on labor if i get them already mounted and balanced?

It seems advantageous to me to order a complete package w/mounting and balancing. That way when they're dropped at your house you just slap 'em on and drive off. If you order the tires and rims seperately you'll have to pay to have each one mounted and balanced. The only potential downside I could see is if there is a problem with the balancing, in which case you'll have to pay to get that wheel balanced, anyways.

Furthermore, has anybody ever ordered from www.edgeracing.com? They seem to have pretty competitive prices, but I'm not sure about the quality of the rims they sell, nor the service.

I have a set of SDR's and now have a set of the Falken 512's.

I have bent all 4 of my rota's. 2 where my fault as I hit a huge pothole. I knew it as soon as I hit the pothole. That was a 300$ lesson....pay attention to the damn road! The other two are bent side to side...not like I hit something. But they still ride perfectly so I am not really stressing about it. BTW, I am religious about tire pressures so that is not it...

As for the tires I am kinda surprised at how noisy they are. Below 20 MPH they make a loug whirring sound. I should probably take them back to where I bought them and ask if that is normal but I just don't have time.

Speeds about 20 mph and they are quite and ride great. But they do seem to like tire pressures about 6-7 psi high.

I just bought a set of the Falken ziex 512's havent got them on yet though. Ive hear great things about the falkens in the snow, cant wait to find out. As far as wheels i have a set of Rota Downshifts on order. I think i payed like 1100.00 for the wheels and tires plus shipping. Last winter i run a set of BFGoodrich G-force T/A KDW's they got me where i needed to go but they definetly arent made for snow.
