I'm not dis-satisfied with the stock pads as of yet, more just planning for the future (if needed). And I fgure there is no harm in being able to stop quicker.

I plan on upgrading my suspension before my pads. Just figure that when the stock pads are needing to be replaced I might as well give them a little +1. I only have 4000 miles on my WRX so far, and I don't ride the brakes, so I have time. Just gathering info for now.

Default Rotor Sizes 2009 2.5i

I think I warped my rotors on me 2009 2.5i so I bought new rotors when I decided to do a brake job at 30K miles.

I just bought new rotors for my 2009 2.5i and was thrown off.

Most places said the diameter is 11.6" and the rotors I got are, but the rotors I pulled off were 10.9" and the 11.6" won't fit. Oddly, the 10.9 are what a lot of rotor sellers say is for the outback sport. I was really thrown off when I saw I had an 11.3" rear rotor, which the retailers say is for my car, (not the outback) and it's larger than the front.

Has anyone else run into this problem, and is there a bracket I can use to put my caliper on the 11.6" rotors?

It'll probably cost me $30 to return the rotors since I lost the return packing form.

No. Not unless they've started designing their brake calipers properly. My only data point for a Rotora kit involves it being thrown away after discovering it INCREASED stopping distances over the OE brakes.

Something to add to the sticky that I found out the hard way. 08+ Sti rear rotors are slightly different than 05+ Sti rear rotors. If you attempt to install them on 05+ the rotor will sit in the caliper by about 1/4in off center.

I am new to this site and I am upgrading my brakes to a true free floating design I came up with. I'm using brembo rotors with AP racing six pistons in front and four pistons on rear. By the way I have a stock 2004 wrx. I machined the bells out of 7075 aluminum and the bracket is 6061 aluminum. I will be installing this setup for a track day event next weekend. I believe this will provide me with superior fade resistance, a solid pedal feel as well as even pad wear.

That info would go here. You can probably PM jamal and see if he has time to update his first post in that thread with the info so everyone finds it at the start of the thread instead of the end of it.

Are the chosen calipers designed for the Impreza platform? If not I'd be very concerned for front to rear braking bias. If they aren't designed for the car you could risk putting too much braking force to the rear wheels. When you get the rear end light under braking it'll be more prone to lock up and spin.

Did you bed the pads in properly once installed? Most, if not all, pads need a bit of a bedding procedure to transfer some pad material onto the surface of the rotor to increase bite/friction. Otherwise, depending on what kind of pads they are, some types/materials need to get up to a minimum temp before they get into their working range. Track pads are this way. They work bettet once they've warmed up a couple hundred degrees.

They work better once they get hot to reduce brake fade. At least for me this is a powerful setup.

By the way 99-01 rs 02-03 rear calipers are the same thing. I think the 04 05 are the samd too

Yes they were done proplerly. I would reccomend them for the backroad driver.

By the way i didnt see this before but for anyone who need to know wrx front calipersfrom 02 to 05 bolt right up to the rs no porblem. Also the rears are the same as the rs

I tried my set-up this past weekend at Blackhawk Farms. I did use an R compound for tires and the braking was phenomenal. No problems with front to rear bias.

Default Burnt brake smell

Did my front rotors (OEMs, below 22mm thk.) with centric premiums, kept the semi-metallic pads that prev owner had in.

Did the 60-5 MPH stops 10 times and got some good smoking (the centric coating on the interior vanes seemed to "cook" off completely, but tophat is OK) brakes. Did a cool down drive and wasn't happy with appearance of rotor face and transferred material (uneven).

So did another 6-7 60-5 MPH stops and this time actually experienced some pad fade and severe smoking. Cooled it down on a drive and it feels OK brake-wise, but now:

- interior of car smells like brake pad smoke (but is going away)
- Wheels smell like burnt pad even when cooled completely, worse when warmed to normal temp.

Should I just take the wheels off and brakleen it all down to remove the burnt "dust" from everything?
Inspect the pads to see if glazed? Can you over-heat and damage a SemMet pad?
Is my brake fluid toast? I purposely held off on a flush (gawd knows if/ever done), so it won't be a waste of time/$.

thx!

It's possible to overheat and damage any pad. They all have limits. Unless you know the actual brand and model of pad it's tough to say what they can or can't handle. A semi-metallic street pad probably didn't need 10 60-5mph stops. Most street pads take 5 or 6 stops until they start to smell. If you saw smoke you might have gone too far and toasted them.

A fluid flush is never a bad idea. If it's old you might as well do it. If it's not a higher temp fluid you might as well do it. For DD you can get away with just about any DOT4 fluid from the autoparts store. If you want higher temp a can of ATE Superblue is not expensive and one can is usually enough to flush and bleed.

Just ordered EBC USR rotors and red stuff pads front and rear along with EBC brake fluid. Total was about $450 shipped to my door.

My 2010 WRX had rotors warp around 30k miles, dealer replaced under warranty and now at 50k miles I need new front rotors again, and rear pads are down to the wear indicators. I live in Colorado and drive (fast) in the mountains, so I am moderately hard on brakes.

Reviews seem to be good on this gear and it's made in the UK. I'd rather not buy made in China stuff because of human rights and environmental abuses...

Easiest thing would be to contact NASIOC Vendor "WRXBrakes" or go to their website "knsbrakes.com". Great product selection, good prices, and wonderful service.

Centric rotors and some Stoptech street performance pads are a great option for a performance bump without breaking the bank.

It's hard to make a good suggestion unless you explain how you use the car and how you want the brakes to behave. There will generally have to be some compromise between manners and performance.

Your car is pretty underbraked so the pads and rotors are going to overheat pretty easily.

I would:

Use up whatever rotors you have as long as they are decent.

Flush w/ ATE fluid

Get I'd say XP8's front/rear or Hawk HP+ for your first event. The 8's are 'alot' the HP+ are 'marginal'

Wrap the ball joint and tie rod ends w/ header wrap or something to prevent melting

Lastly - check your bank account - make sure it is well stocked.
