I have owned two of the bug eyes (2002 first year for the WRX in the US). My bible for tuning was "Training WRX" by the Australian author Nick Warne. The Aussies had WRXs before we got them. I tried quite a few things, but the simplest action was an easy modification for the boost setting that fixed the annoying turbo lag. I also added a boost gage so that I could map boost at various RPMs. All in, I probably spent less than $100 (including the book). Later I did some mods to the exhaust system that were quite effective as well - second-hand parts from TurboXS ran less than $500. My current 2002 has a built STi engine and is annoying to drive in town because it has so much power. I traded it from a friend who was going to lose his license from all his speeding tickets!

Cool The old man.

I just turned 52, I have a 2018 WRX and could care less if I'm too "old" . I say do what you want to the car. I appreciate and respect all wrx/sti owners.
Do what makes you happy, life is way too short to worry.

I'm 49, and I have a 2016 WRX Premium Stage 2 (MAPerformance Package and E30 Tune). My millennial sons seem to think that it's for guys in their mid 20's or early 30's. You know what I tell them? I should probably leave that part out of this reply.

Turned 30 this year and loving my '18 WRX! Seems the majority of owners in my area are all older than I am.

I'm 38 and feel like the opposite is true in my area, it's all kids in their 20s.

I'm just wondering because this will dictate how I build my car when I pay it off. Im currently 28 and like the racer look, but not sure if it would look cool when im above 30, (ex. too boy racer)
So I went back to the original almost-eleven-year-old post . . .

It appears that OP was mainly concerned that by age 30 he might have "outgrown" the exterior appearance mods he'd choose at age 28.

I don't think it happens quite like that, not as long as you choose your mods carefully to suit you as an individual rather than to fit into whatever the "flavor of the moment/month/year" happens to be.

I very much enjoy our '19 WRX, but the only exterior appearance mod it's ever likely to get will be that the wheels for our cooler season duty aren't OE wheels. That's the 'me' at almost 72, but then again I've been a fan of the 'sleeper' or 'stealthy' approach since I was in my mid-20's, mostly just letting appearance fall wherever a mod chosen purely for its function happened to put it.

Before that, I did do a couple of mods that were about evenly split between being appearance-driven and marginally functional (flat-blacked hoods was a minor 'thing' on both the OE and individual-owner levels back in the very early 1970's).
