Honestly never thought to do a swing out. I guess that seems less solid to me. To be honest I don't think my fabricator would put in a swing out door bar based on what I've seen from him. He's pretty serious about his door bars, we had a long talk about that one.

Yeah to me if your focus is drag it doesn't matter, if you want to hit a road course I like fully welded.

Yeah my guy is mainly a rally cage fabricator... The cage in particular that I'm building is an NHRA 8.5 cage with an added cross brace on the main hoop.

Installed some door-b-gone today.

Measured my wheel gap. It's huge. Curious to know what stock wheel gap was. Anybody want to measure theirs?

Did a bit of work tonight removing some unnecessary brackets from the dash bar, and set up my ECU for mounting onto the dash bar.

Just zip tied in place to check fitment with the dash in place.

Like a glove.... Just no glove box.

These brackets found me another 3 pounds.

Could have just started with a GC chassis and saved 1000s of hours and dollars, but to each their own. I'm sure a few passes driving in a straight line will make it worth all the effort.
Turn it into a proper track car, put it through some turns and it should really shine.

I like the GC's but I liked the 2009's when they came out so I bought one and after about five years it turned into a fair weather queen.... The good news is about the only thing that would make this car truly a drag car will be if I end up doing the drag brakes... If I hold off on those this car will be totally trackable.

At least I've already admitted that this is the wrong platform for drag but I just can't help myself.... I have other plans for a car that's more fun (and capable) of turning.

Think of all the weight you'll save!

Not going to lie, it would be a bear of a job on a car that you intend on keeping your interior. My advantage is that I was ripping all the interior out with no regard for keeping it nice so I can put it back in.

Not much to update, all I want to do is get this stupid steering column grommet fixed before the car goes off... Not because it has to be done now, but I don't want to do it after I get the car back.

My slot is confirmed too, next Friday at 1pm he comes to take the car. The job should take a week so hopefully I'll get it back by the 19th or 20th.

The to-do list after the car comes back is pretty long, but my goal is to have the car ripping by Memorial Day:

Cut dash to fit forward laterals
De-grease, mask, paint cage
Paint floor plates
Install roof
Touch up body paint
Flock dash
Install new fuel lines / leak test
Install dash
Re-install & organize wiring
Install seats
Install harnesses
Install & align hatch
Install & align doors
Top off and burp coolant
Change oil
Install tube protectors
Install glass
Wash
Drive

It's official, she's ready to go. Fixed the steering column grommet which was a pain hence why I was pretty pissed when my Jack slipped and the column dropped ~4 months ago.

Ended up having to completely pull the column, reset the grommet, then slide the shaft back through and hook it all back up.

At least I can relax until next weekend!

More progress. Basically just gussets to go along with my seat brackets and a false floor on the driver side.

She's back! Kids already love it.

I have a stupid steep driveway so I had to pull it up with the Forester, plus it was raining so the car got pretty soaked in the 5 minutes it was in between trailer and garage.

As you can see from the second picture, I barely had to touch the dashboard to get it to fit. The cage is super tight against the body.

Started on paint prep tonight. Degreased the cage and seat mounts, and put skate board grip tape on my foot plate.

Thanks! I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Now I just need to make it pretty again.

Managed to remove the logo pucks my fabricator put on the main hoop and get the interior touched up this evening. Stretch goal for the weekend is getting the cage painted and dash flocked.
