Unhappy This commute is going to kill me!

And bankrupt me! So we are still living in Front Royal and don't move to our new place Inwood, WV till Sept. 23rd...BUT my son started Pre-K school this week near Charles Town,WV. So this results in the following since Tuesday thru 9/22:

I leave the house with kid in tow at 7:30, wife heads to work in Middletown, VA (20 miles away).

I drop the kid off at school at about 8:25-30. I arrive at work in Falling Waters, WV at 8:55-9:00. 75 miles one way.

The wife leaves work at 2:30, drives 35 miles to the kids school and picks him up, turns around and drives back home to Front Royal (55 miles).

I leave work 5:30 and get home at about 6:30-35. 65 miles.

My commute -> 140 miles per day = 1400 miles in the next 10 days
Wife's commute -> 110 miles per day = 1100 miles in the next 10 days.

I choose not calculate what those miles will cost in gas right now.

Ouch dude ... that really sucks.

I actually considered a beater, it's not worth it from a money saving perspective. Figure it this way, you have to shell out say $500 for a beat to crap civic, then pay for insurance on top of that - say an additional $40 a month. It'll take years before you see any actual savings once you cover the cost of the car and insurance.

Best you can do, suck it up for a few weeks and be that much happier when you move

Yeah, I just tell myself it is only for a short period of time thankfully. This is only day 3 and I have had enough. As far as a beater, I would sort of consider my RS one in all honesty. I just did what I said I would not -> gas $ for the next 2 weeks for the 2 cars will exceed $250.00

I feel your pain ... between my wife and I, we pay about $100-$125/week for gas between the two of us. I'm thinking about taking the park and ride (bus) to work, but I just don't like the idea of not having my car here in the event that something comes up and I have to leave early.

I did the park and ride from cetntreville and chantilly for 2 years and the buses i took ran every 15 minutes making it not really that big of a deal... only a couple times did i miss the last bus (8pm i think) and had to have my wife come and get me.

I just started a new jerb that's a 90 mile round tripper. My car averages 20 mpg on a good day until I get a tune. . .

If I can ride my cycle 2 days/week, I'll only be spending 300/month on gasoline. . .

The bus here is like every hour or something like that ... so, it's less appealing. I wish it was that frequent, I'd have jumped on the park and ride months ago.

I feel your pain. My daily mileage ain't that bad (30 miles each way = 60/day). However, the past few days I've spent 3 hours on the road and spent several dollars in tolls, too. Then gas for the WRX blows....18mpg.

By the 23rd my RS will have ~131k on it. A tad over 15k miles since February. My commute will go down to 35 miles round trip (and 18 minutes each way ) when we move though.

I filled up today after buring my first tank on my 90 mile/day commute and got 28.5 mpg!

I never got over 22 since I live in the city, and have gotten as bad as 14 during the winter. . .

Plus premium in WV is down to 3.09

I don't follow. You're moving to Inwood, but your kids go to school in Charles Town, and your profile says coming soon to Martinsburg. Yeah, you can consider Inwood to be in the Martinsburg area, but why is your kid going to school in the next county over, which is about 30 minutes away from Martinsburg?

Man I really miss Martinsburg. It's so much nicer than Front Royal.

heh, I have not updated my profile since we actually bought the place in Inwood. My kid is in a pre-K class at a private school near Charles Town, not a county school (yeah, I'm upscale ). Eh, FR is not that bad. There are some nice areas and a few redeeming qualities to it. We'll miss the area where we lived. The sole reason for the move is to be close to work.

Well one more week to go. In the last 2 weeks we have spent $313 in gas for the 2 cars.

Plus, I am so sick of listening to the same 2 Wiggles CDs every morning for an hour I think I may slit my wrists.

I feel your pain there. Although, they do have new episodes, so a new CD should be out before long.

Just out of curiosity, where do you work in Falling Waters? I live in Falling Waters and know a couple of fun roads to drive. I also know of the one bar in Falling Waters, all 50 square feet of it.

The area where my office is is more technically Spring Mills I think, right off of exit 20. There are several GSA building there off of TJ Jackson Dr and I work in one of those. Yeah, there are a lot of nice roads all over that area. Wow, 2.75 for 93. I thought I did well getting 87 for 2.77 at the Rocs in Inwood Friday morning.
