Default Proven power?!! Can you answer this!

Ok, with all the WRX ppl out there, does anyone have first hand experience racing whether on track or street against an LS1 powered Trans Am WS6? Or C5? LT1 C4? Just wondering what your runs where like and its not a 'who's better' question, just curious since my wrx is on its way to the USA soon enough!

I can describe my TA as a great puller. It pulled to redline, no stopping and the torque was just incredible. I could go anywhere I wanted, cut around traffic REAL stinkin' easy. Just curious on the WRX and your adventures!

well watching a WRX hand a Z-06 it's arse on the track and then from an 80 MPH roll was pretty insane but don't expect that in stock form

Yeh there are WRX's out there that can hold there own. Actually they are becoming quite common. It just takes a good amount of modding. But if you ask me. That's the best part of owning a car.

I have an LS1 (C5) and a WRX ('02). Their power curves are so dissimilar it isn't funny. That is to be expected when down 4 cylinders and 3.7L of displacement. I can't really even think of how to compare the two (driving wise). I don't have any trouble changing lanes or passing though

You can launch so much harder in the WRX, but it runs into a wall at ~80mph where the LS1 is catching its stride.

I've got a video of me spanking an LS1 Trans Am at the track... it's weird, I didn't have a great launch and the LS1 spinned and the torque helped him keep on the low end, but my mid and top end made me pull on him. At the end I was at least 2 cars ahead of him. He did have head work, cam, intake and exhaust no cats.

a stage 4 car should beat a WS6 in the 1/4 pretty easy, and stay close on the highway.

once I had a bigger turbo and exauhst I would beat stock LS1s and LT1s at the dragstrip no problem.

not as much instant on torque of course.

I have a z06 now.

fun fun

but so was the WRX

WRX = killer stoplight traction
big v8 = killer power at all rpms

WRX is a good bit smaller and easier to throw around in traffic

I've owned a 96 LT1 vette auto which a lightly modded (exhaust no cats) would beat assuming the WRX was a stick.

I also owned a 98 vette that was stock with just a kn filter and it would run 12.8-13.1's at 111-115's. So it really all depends on the driver.

Also all cars and all drivers are not equal.

Thanks for the info.

I know when I return to the weekly car meets, my Corvette and F-body buds are gonna mess with me ... well, I'm gonna be just a puny 4banger with turbo ... but they don't know the whole story!! I've found that the 2.0T is not puny but a great setup. Great for tuning, real strong. I will be inbetween the avg. Stage 2 and Stage 3 setups this summer, so I plan on playing with the big boys from time to time

Its not that I'm worried, its that I am excited, this is gonna be so cool! Best part, I can drive this car ALL year round! If my TA had AWD, I would sell body parts to get one! OK, cya at the track!

Here is the deal- you say big boys- with a mild turbo upgrade your the big boy. Stoplight to stoplight you can drain most any car you can think of fairly easy(thats like spitting in domestics faces) from low mph rolls you will find a lot of equals but will be able to "run" with a good portion- expect to get beat here at times by modded big boys- on the highway well I dont really do that so I dont know(feels slow though). In the twisties- I always feel I am botching it and being too careful but they must be doing that to a greater extent as the big boys nards shrivell and pull u-turns like ricers

My best 1/4, I just ran a couple of weeks ago against a 2002 Vette - I got 12.77 @ 107 and he got 12.9x @ 121 - I have a big turbo but he has insane torque and at the end of the 1320 he was over 120....so if the race was any longer, he would have kicked my ass

Yeah my dad has a 96 lt1 c4, so I get to ride in it and feel the brute torque, but I really need a car that does it all ... speed, style, all year driving, dependability, price, insurance, etc. The WRX fits the bill perfectly!

MP5, you are right about being the big boy, but until I experience it for myself ... Those corvette guys are a great group of ppl to converse with. Mostly not to hot headed, well rounded egos, not insulting, quite respectful. More than I can say for those Mustang guys!

It takes a turbo upgrade+fuel to beat ls1's on the highway. Stage2/3 wrx will give a good fight against a well driven ls1 from a stop.

stock ls1's that is... they are mean when modded.

My best advice, just don't mouth off too much and you'll do alright either way. It's the hotheads that talk crap and make excuses that I rail on after beating them. I beat a cool WRX guy pretty bad this weekend (sorry, don't know the details of what he had beyond turbo) and he just acted humble and I had no reason to give him any grief.

Trey Cobb explained it best to me ...

"These are fun cars!"

A solid stage 2 with some extras ... good enough for me. Was just thinking about those carshow ppl and the games they play off on the rarely traveled roads It sucks when you get back to the car show and they've been there for a couple of minutes waiting on you

cheers!
