98 Impreza obs single port ej22 headers

I'm debating wether I should get UEL headers from eBay. Hard to find anywhere else at a decent price. question: will I lose power by having these headers installed? How will it affect my torque and Hp?

Any input wit be helpful. Thanks.

Default For Crosstrek Borla is the way to go!!!

I have install the BORLA 11843 Exhaust System and absolutely love it! Not much more power, but for a couple hundred bucks the quality of sound is much better, like a Subaru should be. The Borla muffler weighs about 5 lbs less than the stock muffler which is a plus. All things considered, I am happy with the purchase.

Frankly, do you want peak numbers or "area under the curve"?
They are basically "mutually exclusive".
Pick one.

I pull 1200lb+ trailers at times, so I want area under the curve.
I am NOT a dyno whore.

I have owned my Legacy GT 2.5 since new.
I have a full COBB EL header, high flow CAT and CATback.
Yes, I'm happy with sound and power.

That looks more like a muffler, resonator is under the front passengers seat.

Just did some testing, it was the stock wrx resonator. Looks like it's causing the rattle/rasp. Swapped it for my original and it fixed it. Although it is now twice as quiet...

Default swap

any one ever try to put 2.5i headers on the older style 2.5rs/ ej251's?

is it just an oil pan & pick up tube swap?

or is it too much work for too little gain?

98 Impreza obs

Intake-HKS super hybrid panel filter. Exhaust - full Stainless Steel UEL header to a tsudo hi-flow Cat, to a borla catback. For a na Impreza it felt like a little overboard but gets the gains it can get, overall runs harder, I'm sure there is hp gain un-accounted for in my setup

Both used in the private classifieds.

Likes: Sounds awesome, revs a bit easier, definitely faster, fairly quiet at cruise, sounds stock at idle.

Dislikes: My filter keeps falling off (the intake is missing a few pieces ), loud as hell you can hear my car from a few blocks when I gun it (not that I mind all that much), people keep putting their foot in my exhaust to show how big the tip is .

Powah gains: A friend's car put down 129hp on Cobb's dyno with the Rallispec, borla headers, pulleys, and some catback. Made 133 w/ a Cobb with the Rallispec catch can.

Videos if you want to hear my car...

EDIT: Put the Cobb on today. I like it a lot more. Power delivery is smoother and it's a lot quieter.

Not quite have the exhaust yet... but I came across one on EBay and curious of what it sounds like and if anybody has any experience with it... it's "stainless steel tsudo catback" around 300$... any info reply or PM me plz and thanks... also so I don't have to ask twice... is there any way to pass the inspection without buying a new cat? I heard something about switching sensors and stuff like that but idk much about it besides the fact that it's expansive as hell to get new

This is in an old skool wagon with new skool powertrain, but good info for those doing an EJ swap in their EA82 wagons and for you wagon owners in general.

87 GL Wagon powered by an EJ25D.
Untitled by subynut, on Flickr

Initially, it had the stock EJ y-pipe and cat with a custom 2.25" cat back with a Magnaflow straight through muffler. It droned terribly on the highway, but sounded great on the race track!

Later on, I switched to a set of UEL Headers with a resonator I ordered from ERZ Performance.
Tsudo Header and Cat pipe by subynut, on Flickr

That brought out the lovely rumble. I then followed the header/resonator with a 20" glasspack with the above mentioned muffler. Pipe is still 2.25".

Power is smooth all the way to redline and is easy on the ears inside. She has a very mild rumble in town and quiet on the highway. But... too quiet for the race track! LOL At idle, her rumble can be mildly heard inside my house. So, it's not obnoxious to my neighbors. Which is a good thing in my book.

I was after a Touring Style exhaust and I feel I found it with the configuration I chose on PandaWagon. In fact, I am planning on doing the very same thing to my '99 Legacy Outback except using an EL header for more low to mid RPM torque where I need it as a daily driver.

I cracked the lid in my 2.5i. I cracked the lid in my WRX.

I recently swapped out the WRX lid for a leather STi lid. I figure that if I crack this one, the leather will at least hide the crack.

Added bonus, the padded leather feels nice on my elbow.

Anyone here on MAP sensors?

02 LGT wagon, 2.5 5 speed. I have done Borla-rep UEL SS headers with 2.25 in collector from ebay and chopped my muffler off. Still have 2 cats and 2 res (previous owner must have added one). It used to top out at 114, it now does 120, I think it's limited to 120 in the ECU, as my buddy was surprised it could do 114 before when his 02 n/a forester would hit speed limiter at 110. Makes sense they would up it a bit for the lowered Legacy GT.

I need to do an intake. However I want to keep the engine happy. I understand that MAP sensors are much more forgiving than the MAF's, but is there an optimal setup for the MAP's? A friend of a friend does custom SS exhaust work for a reasonable price, I'm going to get a full test pipe back from the header and a good muffler and use an exhaust cutout when I want someone's attention/tracking it. In my county we don't do emissions at all, so catless is fine.

What do I need to look for when making the intake so the stock computer is happy? Will just throwing all this stuff on my car make it run lean from no back pressure and less restrictive intake? Will I throw codes from not having cats? There's a 90 degree angle bung for the rear o2 sensor that supposedly fixes the code, but will THAT make it run lean, or just cover up an issue?

Planning to build the intake myself, I want to keep the intake out of my fender as it is a daily driven wagon and I don't want to stress about hitting puddles too much. Should I keep the air box how it is and just run a big-o'll tube to it? Delete it and run a pod? What do I do with these 3 vaccum hoses going to the airbox? I'm definitely an area-under-the-curve guy, these don't make any power under 3500 or over 5500 according to my butt dyno, if I can widen that a bit I think I'll be happy.

The car is pretty much rust free, everything is done suspension wise by the previous owner and I, rear subframe bushings, whiteline swaybars, endlinks, anti-roll kit, steering rack bushings, etc. Only thing it's missing are lowering springs or coils, and I'm saving that for spring. Phenolic spaces are also on the list, but it's going into winter and air is cold in Wisconsin anyways, so I'll save that for spring too.

Thanks guys.

I’ve used a plug expander they have them at auto zone. It moves the O2 sensor away from the exhaust gas so it won’t read too rich. Worked for me good luck.
