Unhappy Good-bye to me

This will most likely be my last post on this board for the foreseeable future. I may continue to lurk around some, but in truth the I-Club has lost all its magic for me.

Why? Because earlier this month, I lost my job--the one I've had for the last sixteen months, with two and one-half hours severance.

This means that I cannot in any way afford to buy a 2002 Impreza WRX, the one I preordered in December. I am now using the money I scrimped and saved, for a down payment, to live on.

I've been looking forward to that car for a year. I can remember first reading the blurb in SCC that Subaru would finally import the turbo-charged WRX "next year". With no more detail than that I started fantasizing about getting one. And later, when I really decided I could afford a new car, and only just, I started looking at the then-still-vaporware WRX. And when I finally could, I ordered one, gambling that I could swallow the phantom MSRP. Since then, I've spent every minute obsessing--choosing options, searching for accessories, reading about, learning, loving. All for naught.

All that time, wasted. It pains me to read this board. It makes me sick every time I see a sports car on the freeway. It's depressing me to write this. My dream is dead.

Long live the king.

Hey, don't give up. Just build yourself a porno web site and you can retire in 6 months.

Sad isn't it. The sites that make the most money on the net are porno sites.

There are other ways to make money besides punching a clock.....

Good luck....

Hey dude, don't worry. Your down right now, but not down for the count. You'll find a job and you'll eventually be able to get a WRX, who knows, maybe you'll get an STi instead

Sorry to hear about the job man. Keep your head up, Start looking for jobs man, it sounds like every bolt and piece of the WRX meant something to you so use that desire while job hunting. Who knows, maybe you'll find something better.

seriously... it's not the end of the world; though it may feel like it now. you'll get a new job and this will be a memory in little while. as for the car, it's just an object. they'll still be making them the next time you can afford one.

I'm sorry too.. I know it doesn't help much, but we are all dealt blows in life and this will give you more time to plan out how you "really" want your car. If you know GIS or Java programming I could prob. get you a job in Seattle

You don't have to leave the boards. There are lots of folks around here that don't own a scooby yet. Maybe you will find another job, then you can post about it and we will all cheer for you!! Stick around!

The time you spent reading about the WRX wasn't wasted because you were doing something you enjoy. I think we all know how you feel, but right now don't worry about the car. Concentrate on finding a better job. When you want something really, really badly, it's always hard to be denied. But at the end of the day it's just a car. A lump of steel and rubber and glass and plastic. It's not worth getting this upset over. The WRX is a harbinger of good things in the import car market. In a few years you might be putting down a deposit on a Skyline (from Nissan not Motorex) or an Evo or an STi.

Don't stop frequenting the board; keep dreaming of what you want and if you want it badly enough it WILL HAPPEN. But right now you have more important fish to fry. The WRX isn't going anywhere; when you're ready it, or something better than it, will be here.

Cuppster,

As long as you still want it... it can be yours. Never give up your drive to achieve a goal, because if you do, you wont achieve it.
With anything in life, sometimes one must be patient (perhaps due to an unforseen obstacle). Often, this patience pays off by forcing you to plan a better plan. Your enduring effort will power you into achievement of any goals that you set for yourself. So dont give up!

Besides, if all you need is a hell ride in a turbocharged impreza to cheer you up, Im willing to volunteer! (although this might diminish your enthusiasm to have one! )
There are other guys at this club that would do the same too. Hell, some guys drive there stock imprezas wildly enough to give the same result!

Good Luck

Hang in there Cuppster. The way I see it, while you're taking care of business by putting food on the table and keeping a roof over your head, you'll still have the dream of a WRX to look to. Let it be something that sustains you. It can happen, it will happen...and who knows, when it does, I may be the guy in the WRX you blow by in your STi.

Cuppster, you live in California, what type of work are you looking for? Maybe a fellow I-clubber can help you out. What is your feild. If you are in the engineering feild, I can ask around at Boeing for you. I can talk to my buddies in construction. Somebody on this board should be able to help this guy with a job. We have all been unemployed at one point or another. We know the feeling of the unsurmountable task of finding a good job. Truth is it only takes one good contact.

So i-clubbers, lets think and help this guy!!

He deserves a WRX!

Maximum is right, a dream is never dead. It can't be touched. Hey, maybe you should readjust your sights and plan to get a used RS when you find your next job, at least you wouldn't have to wait so darn long. Be glad you found this out, too, BEFORE you got your new car. Repossession would Suck!

A switch of jobs does't take much, especially if you're good at what you're doing - and I don't think you'd be there after 16 months if you sucked at it.

Just go to a temp agency and ask for a few more bucks then you were getting at your ex-job and you'll find anothre in no time.

ARG - Yes, porn sites make a lotta cash, but they have to have original content to do it.

Not to be a dick, but if your financial situation is this precarious maybe you shouldn't be looking to take on the burden of paying for a $20,000+ car and everything that goes with it.

Hey, look on the bright side of things. I lost my job a few weeks ago, too. My dreams for a turbo disappeared, along with an engine I had been waiting for (sold to someone else.)

But lo and behold, after massive job seeking efforts (thanks Dice, Monster, and HotJobs), I was made an offer. I start next Monday.

Yes, my savings is wiped out, but at least I had it and didn't lose my current Scooby! Time to start over.

Now get out there and get the job you deserve!!!!

Thumbs down

I hate to be the first one to sound insensitive, it is not my intention. However, I have to make this point. Dude, if you have so little money that you need that downpayment just to live immediately after losing a job, you really can't afford a car that will probably be over $500 a month. I realy realy want one of the new 2002 M3's, and I could probably swing the payment, but it would take away from every other area of my life if I did that. You have to live within your means. That's why I have an RS and not a $47,000 M3. I also want money to spend on my house, my kid, vacation, etc. Just get another job. Your life is not over. Cry when you have real problems. Don't sound like you are going to cut your wrists just because you can't get your dream car next month. I will have an M3 someday, I am not depressed because it won't be in my driveway tomorrow.

Sorry if that sounded harsh, I just can't listen to this "my life is over" attitude over something like this.
