OMG just took a ride in it today.. well yesterday. 2 Thumbs up on the car, now you only need that front lip and maybe a JDM hood scoop.

I must say this log is pretty impressive. Thanks for being "real" and honest about the time and effort that truly goes into taking on a project like this. Many people out there get caught up in the magazines and hype and want the car done in a "couple" of weeks. That being said, I'm sure it can be done but at what exxpense to the customer?

Anyhow, from a fellow tech.......GREAT JOB.

out of curiosity, why did you use the GD steering column and not just keep the GC column with the STi rack?

We also wanted the STi steering wheel, STi ignition cylinder and key, and everything else attached to the STi column.

Does the 02-05 exhaust system fit onto the GC?

Yes, if you're using a whole turbo-back. The downpipe-to-catback flange is in a different place, though, so you can't use a GD downpipe with a GC cat-back, or vice versa.

It wasn't that much, but we don't charge ourselves for our own labor. The GC car was something like $5k. (Too much, in my opinion!) The salvage '04 STI was acquired in trade for shop parts and services. We bought probably another $2000 in miscellaneous parts. We got a bunch of stuff donated by our very supportive suppliers. (See sponsor mentions above.)

But the labor was a LOT. Weeks and weeks of multiple people working on it in every spare moment.

To reproduce it I would cost at least $20,000, I'd think, assuming you're not a shop...

Dan: any chance you are going to post... current status/progress pics

Are you saving it for later, or intending to leave it out completely?

Honestly, I just haven't made time. But I'm not (that) ashamed -- we crashed the project car on its second weekend at Summit Point. It required a new rear quarter panel and door. We had planned to paint it white anyway...it's in paint now. I'll certainly post when it's repainted. Dave, if you want to post interim pics, that's fine.
