Bummer for those who want to do the swap. Hopefully SVCdx will have a new connector source sometime soon... Keep the faith!

Yes it will work. It has been posted and covered here. Here is an alternate seller that we have had success with.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Subaru-Fores...c23862&vxp=mtr

I am personally running this exact unit in my 2011.

Just placed my order for the one above!

Thought about holding out for an hd version, but I don't have the time to dig and wait for one.

Mine came with all the pictured connectors. I'm not sure if any of them are functional since I just swapped out my 2011 WRX stock unit with this one. I tried to use the 8 Pin rear view camera connector, but I ended up breaking it when I tried to modify it to tap into the head unit's 6 volt power. I ended up buying one from svxdc instead.

Well that answered my question. I was going to try to modify the rear view camera harness it came with to tap the head unit power too. I'm assuming it is not easy, what pin does SVXdc use?

Also Freddy, mine only came with the extra wires because there was an exterior blemish on my radio. So they threw those in for free. They are completely unnecessary though as the install uses all the existing plugs in the vehicle. It is 100% plug and play.

Anyone have any leads on a Cm631UD? The Chinese import is a nice alternative but I'm looking for the original HU with HD radio.

There is one on ebay located in MASS. They are asking ~$500 and won't budge.

Another one on ebay is asking for $500 w/ buy it now, bidding starting at $350. Tempting to bid however $500 is too much.

The USDM Forester HU model CP635U1, and AUDM Forester HU model CP235K1 are confirmed to include the line-level mono subwoofer output on the 16-pin socket. You can add a female RCA jack and amp remote turn-on wire to your car's 16-pin aux harness to access that sub out (e-mail me for more info).

I have not confirmed whether the EDM Forester model CP435L1 has the sub out (but it probably does, since that Chinese eBay vendor includes the sub RCA on their harness). It's easy to check: Look for +12V on pin #5 -- that is the amp remote turn-on. Viewing the rear of the HU, the pins are numbered:

8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
16 ... 9

Aux input is on pins 3, 4, 11, 12. Mic input on pins 1, 2, 9, 10.

The Impreza/Crosstrek model CM631UD does not have the sub out.

I'm extremely happy w this radio, except I do have a question.

What in the hell is this wire, and were does it go? I'm not 100% it was plugged into the old, but I certainly don't see where it goes in the new.

Everything works 100% as far as I can tell. And the sound is much much better than the old!

Tia!

You're looking at the stereo chassis redundant ground. It plugs onto the connector sticking out in the middle of the back of the head unit chassis just above the 16 pin connector.

Please excuse my ignorance.

What is the redundant ground?

And regarding its plug location, do I need to remove the screw that's pictured?? I don't see any opening where it fits pictured.

No need to remove any screws.
It should slide onto the metal tab that's sticking out horizontally from the back of the radio.

Ah! I gotcha. Thanks

Safe to use without it for a few days until I can get back in there?

I can confirm that this is a true statement. I just installed the same $179 eBay headunit and I'm blown away by the improvement in sound quality, especially after turning off Loudness and the preset EQ. I left SRS on, set Treble to 5, Bass to 1, and Midrange at 0. The unit is definitely pushing more power and is heavier than the OEM unit by about 7 ounces.

It's exactly what I was looking for. More robust, deeper sound; easy install and OEM fitment; and cheap.

"OEM 4.3" HD Radio Hidden Menus

Radio off, ignition key to accessory, or on (radio shows "Audio Off")
Hold down "6" key
Spin the tune knob to the right at least 30 clicks

Note that on the 4.3" unit, there are more menus "behind" the first one; in other words, repeating the same sequence after you are in the version number menu takes you to factory test menu 2 (Loudness ON-OFF), and then repeating it again takes you to factory test menu 3 (Eq ON-OFF)"

I am very pleased w this unit right out of the box, just what this car needed.
