When getting a tax stamp for an SBR, do you have to list and/or "own" (pay for it but FFL holds it) the gun beforehand or can you get the stamp process going while finding the rifle you want?

I'm not sure. Mine is considered a pistol because it doesn't have a stock, just a buffer tube. I've been considering getting a SBR stamp so I can put my ar lower on it. All I do know is it cost $200 and is about a six month wait. My guess is they probably need a serial to process the paperwork?

One of the required questions is serial number, so yes you need to own the receiver before you submit the paperwork.

Call C3 arms and talk to Clint. He will help you out.

I believe you should have no problem owning it yourself as long as you don't put the SBR upper on it.

Edit: I thought you were talking about a lower you already have. If you are buying the weapon complete then you need to buy the weapon first so you have the serial for the forms.

Yup, you pay for it, and it sits at the shop until the approval comes back, because it belongs to that serial number, same for anything that needs a tax stamp.

On an AR, how far should a round fall into the chamber if simply manually dropped via the ejection port? (trying to figure out a chambering problem.)

About as far as the hinge pin allows the upper reciever to rotate away from the lower.

What problems are you having? Most feed issues are mag related. Does it happen whe you are shooting?

When chambering a round, the bolt stops when the round is only about 4/5ths of the way into the chamber. Most of the time, I have to drop the mag to get the round out. Forward assist does not typically do anything. Tried new PMAG, a metal mag, and two different brands of ammo.

Another question: How easy should it be to fully chamber a round? If one were to hold the charging handle back about 3/4 of the way, then release it, should it still be enough force?

Do you have the little button to force chamber it? Not that you should use it, just for diagnostic purposes to see if you can easily coax the round in. Is the inside of the chamber visibly messed up at all? If you want a pro gunsmith to check it out, call Robar industries at 623-581-2962.

edit: They make it able to pull back as far as it does so that you will pull it 100% back. Don't develop muscle memory of not pulling it back all the way. That being said, mine will feed if I don't pull it back all the way.

The forward assist doesn't do anything when it happens. Chamber looks good--but I don't have much to compare it to.

always make sure you pull the charging handle all the way to the rear and LET IT GO do not ride it forward. always make sure you let the bolt go forward under the springs force. guns are designed to operate with a lot of forces acting upon them, don't baby the gun it won't break

You could try taking a brass brush for, say, a 9mm handgun and brushing the chamber. It would rule out there being crap in there. How old is the gun?

That would be sweet, but I think I am going to RMA it. I don't want to try to fix it myself and have them claim that I damaged it. Thank you though!
