Pretty sure all new 4150 series AST's are aluminum bodied.

All the shocks yes, but my understanding is the strut applications are still steel, I think I found it on their site.

I know the 4150's were suppose to be quite a bit lighter. So that lead me to believe the bodies are alum. but I could be wrong.

From what I've heard, the strut bodies will remain steel, while the shocks will be aluminum. If the twins are similar to the GRs, the steel front AST 41xxs will still be lighter than stock with the right springs (Swifts in my case).

Saw T1R is looking at making a single-exit Ti catback if they get enough interest in it. Without the resonator they are talking 10lbs for the entire catback.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22912 My guess is it probably doesn't sound the greatest but they haven't released any sound clips yet so maybe it's better than I imagine. I'm going to stick with my Perrin catback for CS since I don't like the single exit look for daily driving and I can drop the Perrin muffler and put a downturn on in like 10-15 minutes. |

I wonder if the turndown would work w/ a header & cat, dB-wise?

All depends on the mid section has a resonator or not I think. I have a resonated catback, and will have a catted front pipe, overpipe, and non-catted header. Depending where that ends up I might remove the resonator. Simmons has everything but the header and is non-resonated so he can better speculate.

The one I made is pointed straight at the ground under the middle of the car since it connects to the Perrin midpipe. It's not that quiet but it would be hard for it to trigger a sound meter even it if was louder with a catless header or front pipe. The only issue is it's not in a well supported place with regards to exhaust hangers. But using some Kartboy stiff hangers helped.

Interesting stuff. I have determined I want it quiet, since I've finally given up my pickup as a daily after many years (and I'm getting old lol). Will probably go catless header, catted front, resonated mid to axle back (phwew!) Then introduce downturn before AB.
A plan? |

Similar to mine except I'm went with the Perrin resonated catback. Unless the header makes it 15dB louder I should be good to go as a daily driver. Right now my exhaust is actually more quiet than I would like.

Headers: If you had your choice of what type of headers to put on the car, Would they be:
4/2/1 ...4/1 ...EL or UEL to make the best power/torque... What is your opinions??? Me: 4/2/1 EL would probably be the best for AutoCross..Should help with the Midrange and coming off the corner.. I have input to a header design and want the best performance. Bill |

I think its tough to say right now Bill. So many are in development right now. I know Perrin took a stock header (which is a 4-2-1) and removed the cat. They then made a EL (they said it was more equal volume) 4-1 and said the 4-1 made more power/potential for power gains. Just some food for thought.

Thread slowing down...
Put the LithiumPros batt I had in Godzilla in. Weight savings 25.5 lbs. Car otherwise still completely stock, down to alignment. This may sound crazy, but turn-in seemed a touch better after that. Another useless vid--had PAX until pipped by my competitor--he came out of nowhere. May have been the BMW grunt that did it (and his car is mostly prepped for STX). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFU4d...ature=youtu.be |
