Fingers crossed for the STi debuting within $3k of the Evo8. $32k would be acceptable, 30k would be ideal, and 35K would be a mistake.

As they're obviously looking to trump Mitsu with the release, I think the pricing/specs will be similar.

Anything more expensive than the Evo8 would be a mistake.
The STi doesnt offer anything much over that the Evo offers.
So any cost above $30k is a mistake.

If it comes with 260hp, it better be well below 30k.

When you say "the STi" I believe you're talking about the STi spec for Japan and Europe. It could be a bad assumption on your part...

US EVO has open front diff, no ACD, 5 speed box and 271 HP.
Let's wait until Monday and see what our STi has.

Yes - what you mainly get with the USDM Evo lancer over the standard WRX is 271hp/273ft/lb's of torque, bigger and better wheels and rubber, and Brembo brakes. That's about it.

If the STi came with near the same power and the goodies such as brakes/tyres/suspension, it's already basically matched the USDM Evo. And it's certain to come with the 6-speed vs. the 5-speed in the Evo.

So, really, it will get down to price and personal preferences. What a terrible thing!

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

And, factory Recaros w/5 pts., and HIDs, and Carbon fiber wing, and water spray, and much better suspension, and sunroof, and sweet guages, and better interior, and oh did I mention HIDs?

3 pt standard belt. HID's, well, I guess it's a performance option at night, and Carbon Fibre Wing is rather... Well, the performance of that won't be seen at legal speeds, shall we say.

Suspension - I won't vent.. I mean, I'll keep my views of their suspension to myself, it's a personal thing.

Better interior? Have you sat in a Lancer Evo? Go try an Lancer OZ, they are not much different, seats aside.

I'm not saying that the Evolution is bad, in any way, and it looks to be a blast to drive. But saying that it's greater than the USDM STi is a stretch, given the spec. And it doesn't make the WRX look a bad deal, you get what you pay for with either car.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

Paul,
If you notice I was replying to a comment comparing the new USDM Evo to the USDM S T A N D A R D WRX, NOT the STi.

I will say again the standard WRX can't compare to the new EVO.

I was mainly countering the continuing comments that the STi cannot compare with the Evo If Certain Conditions Were Not Met. As far as I can tell right now, the only thing the STi may not meet the Evo on is price, and that's not even certain until tomorrow. And it looks already to be offering more even if only the 6-speed - if DCCD is an option, quite a bit more.

Cheers,

Paul Hansen

Yes - in fact the EVO (while more expensive) will certainly be great competition for the standard WRX.

We'll have to wait and see on the USDM EVO vs USDM STi.
