Sorry, meant to state this in my reply. I was given an ETA of 12/14 and my salesperson said it may (not holding breath) be available earlier.

I travel for work, and asked something similar to my sales guy. FWIW, he said something along these lines: That the car was ordered by me, and that no one else would be able to buy it unless I backed out.

If it means anything, I was concerned about not being in town for up to 1.5-2 weeks after the delivery ETA.

If you have put down a deposit for it they will hold the car for you. Just tell them you aren't available to pick up the car and when you can. remember to ask them to put it away and not let anyone test drive it.

Good point. I'll ask my dealer that the next time I speak with them. Do you happen to have any pointers to ensure that happens?

Ordered: 8/25
VON: 11/3

ETA: 12/17

By the way, what's the etiquette on posting prices?

On an unrelated note, I've only had a chance to skim the last few pages of this thread, but I find it pretty neat that you guys have info on inbound ships. Compliments to you ladies and/or gentlemen responsible.
I ordered from there too. How often did you call the dealership?

such007,

You and I are in the same boat. That's figuratively, but for our cars possibly literally.

I'm sure they'll do what you request. Ask them to tell you how many mile is on the Odo once the car is off the truck. If the miles vary too much from what they told you then you know someone been driving it lol. Ask them to put it under cover or preferably inside a garage or something.

I don't think I've called my sales guy more than twice since ordering the car, but since the end of September, I've checked in via email about once every two to three weeks.

Each exchange usually ended with him telling me something like unfortunately his manager was out that day, but ensuring me that I'd get an update within the next business day or two, and that to his knowledge everything is still only schedule for a 6-10 week ETA. About 2 weeks would go by without any word, and I would initiate the email conversation again only to get the same result.

That doesn't sound like a sales person / dealer I would be happy with. Mine emails me every Monday with an update, even if it is to say that nothing has changed. He also told me upfront that it would be 10 weeks (nothing less) and that on average they are getting them in about 11-12 weeks. In fact he told me before I agreed to buy it; "Please be aware that STI's that we order take a lot longer recently and can be up to 12 weeks. I want you to understand that before you put down a deposit or order a car." I very much appreciate that, because when I asked my local dealer he said, "4-6 weeks".

I researched dealerships before I bought and even though there is one a block away, I drove 60 miles to another dealership because they had great reviews, largest in the state, big inventories, and didn't BS me on the phone. I am glad I did, it was worth the drive and relationship.

To be fair, the guy I've been working with is sharp enough and professional enough for my needs. He's a decent guy when we do have a chance to interact, and the dealership's price was right. Looking back at the whole experience thus far, my only complaint would be the management of expectations. In my profession (and I'm sure in many others of the members here), I have been on both the sending and receiving end of timetable delays, and I would have much rather dealt with a sales guy like yours, even if I was told a 20 week ETA.

That being said, the situation I'm in now is one that I have put myself in, and one that could certainly be worse. I'll try to provide more updates as 12/17 nears, so that others may get a better idea of what to expect.

Well, looks like I found the few others who are also waiting for their cars. Can we meet for a group pic? I'm hoping it will come sooner than 12/17

Ordered 9/10/12 from Fitz in gaithersburg

That's crazy, I would have sought out a different dealership. Isn't Evanston Subaru near you?

Makes me feel bad for ordering 10/27 and getting an eta of 12/26 xD.

PBP FTW though, right?

You got extremely lucky man. I ordered 10/13 nothing new since the day I ordered it. I'm actually inquiring about a Limited WRX hatch in WRB with my salesman to sell it to me with the same deal (invoice + $200 + options) we agreed on with my Premium WRX hatch order. Hopefully I can work something out for it. Although I don't know if I will like the leather seats. I have leather seats in my acura and I can say I prefer cloth seats.

I am working with David Anthony. Hes a nice guy. I was told 6-8 weeks when I ordered. And then on the 25th the release came out about the 4 months. I guess I wasnt affected.

Did they tell you it would be 15 weeks plus?

Otherwise, I would not stand for that!

lets hope this does delay any of the arriving shipments.

The slow season for cargo traffic has already begun at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, but if anyone thought that meant that a clerical workers' strike at the facility would not have much of an impact, they were wrong.

One container ship laden with goods to be imported into the U.S. has already been diverted to Oakland because of the strike, which that has idled 10 of the 14 cargo terminals at the nation's busiest seaport complex, according to the Marine Exchange of Southern California.

I am sure they didn't know. They don't have control over that. When the order was put in, I am sure it showed an ETA just 2 months out. We have a Forester finally inbound that was ordered 6-27. All they ever told us was that it was in the system. They are just recently adjusting pipelines to more accurately show the wait.

No reason to blame the dealership over something they can't really do anything about.

Plus the dealer will be messing with my new car.

I ordered 11/14. And dealer doesn't know eta as it is too early in the process.

I was finally able to press the general manager for an order number.

I am in NY so I am SDC.
He told me order# 17687. Does this sound like a real number.

Has anybody called SDC and get any additional info. I'm willing to wait for my car but if I can get it sooner.....SDC contact info?

What would you guys do???

I think in leaning towards waiting..maybe...

Got an email today from the general manager. They want $500 to install options originally ordered on my vehicle but not in the car that came in normal allotment.

I have come to the conclusion that it is well worth it to me to pay extra to get this car (in the next 7-10 days I hope)

My last car was lost in hurricane Sandy and i have been sharing a friends ford explorer with my father(we work together which makes this a little easier)

This friend has been so nice as to lend me their car with no mention of repayment. I however plan on paying them $500 for the month I had the car, I think that seems fair. I didnt even ask for the car, he just offered it!

Anway, if i wait another 4-6 weeks conservatively (order date was 11/15) I will feel that I need to compensate my friend accordingly for the extended use of the car, if I can even use it for that long.

I guess however I need to rationalize it....

Anyway I'm pretty psyched about getting this car so soon.

Everybody I know says I was crazy to order a car that would take so long to get considering my situation(my home had 5 feet of water in it)

I just wouldnt pass up the chance to get the STi as I had absolutely no plans of getting rid of the 09 WRX any time soon. ( and my insurance payout was substantially more than I though it would be)

Looking forward to "graduating from this thread!!"

I am not sure how they wouldn't know, unless they either never ordered a car before (so not history) or they don't pay attention. My dealer was very clear, he said that STIs have been over 10 weeks if we order and on average they have come in at around 12 weeks.

You would think the dealer would convey the experience they have had in ordering cars, delays, etc. It sounds like they are more interested in making the sale, if it means having to be a little less transparent about any delays or ordering problems.

Case in point, I went to my local dealer first (small inventory). He told me if I ordered now it is about 4-6 weeks. When I told the big state dealer that, he laughed, he said no one is getting any special orders STIs in 4-6 weeks. He said the best you can expect is 10 weeks and even that is being optimistic.

Of course the guys at my local dealer don't know anything about subaru's not a SINGLE person that sells them over there has ever own one. They told my wife she could order a Forester XT in stick too, my wife told them they don't know what they are talking about - they don't make the XT in a stick anymore. She had to correct them. They also didn't know that the STI is a 2.5L, he told me it was a 2.0L. It is sad when your wife knows more about the car than the sales person.
