Honestly there used to be MORE street racing when I was younger. I grew up on the north side of Dallas, Texas during the 60's and 70's. Forest Lane was the popular cruise and drag. Cars would come from as far away as Oklahoma to drive and race. Full blown and nitrous injection mixed in there too. We had multiple fatalities due to racing on that road including a family of four in a station wagon who were innocently trying to cross Forest lane as two cars were pushing 120 on a quarter mile run. It took the police about 4 years to get the racing under control.
What really broke the back of the locals in my High School and their "need for speed" happened on a Saturday night not far from where I lived. There was a party in a residential neighborhood on Northaven Dr. with about 100 high school kids drinking and the usual stuff kids do. One of the local kids was smoking tires and racing up and down the block showing off. He made a run at a high rate of speed and lost control piling up into the cars parked in front of the house. Everybody ran outside to check it out. The guy was pinned in the car and the football players were trying to free him. The best that they could do is get his head and shoulders out of the window. The car caught fire before they could get him out. The fire boiled up around him and he was screaming for someone to kill him. His best friend walked up with a baseball bat and knock him out..... If I could find the obituary I would post it up here.

IF any moron posts up "cool story bro" about this...
Needless to say that night changed the life of many people.

I love the cops comment, "speed kills", even though there were no fatalities. They say that like a nervous twitch these days.

Did you miss the part where a 9 year old was killed 500 feet from there recently?

No of course I didn't. I'm not condoning street racing at 130mph at all. I'm just really sick of people repeating the same line all the time for nearly any incident. They say it so often its starting to lose its context.

Oh come on. What the hell did he expect telling someone not to say it.

The douche bag of the year would have commented on his refusal to use the return key, etc.

I get you were attempting to be funny, but it was pretty insensitive.

Nasioc is not the place to look for sensitivity and comfort.

That's what JGard's mom is for.

And that guy is right, speed doesn't kill. It's the sudden stop that does the trick.

But if you're going to get pissed at people saying "speed kills" because you've sped and never died, I'd ask you to look up the mortality rate of accidents that took place under the speed limit and compare them with the mortality rate of those that were over the speed limit. I have a feeling that you'd see a stark difference. Just because you have raced down the streets and not gotten hurt doesn't mean squat. Speed is the pivotal factor in how much energy is imparted upon what is soon to be your rotting corpse.

Quick physics lessons for idiots.
Energy is derived as ½ mv². V is Velocity. If you're going 20 mph, you won't have half as much energy as if you were going 40. It's only a quarter. At 80mph, you have 16 times more energy than if you were driving 20mph. In this instance, where they were doing 130 in a 55, that's over 5 time the energy in an accident.

I shared the story to make people think. I wouldn't expect to find sensitivity on here either. I wasn't present when the accident happened however I did see the aftermath of the wreck and also in the kids I went to school with. They had to hear the guy scream and smell him burning. I am sure some folks on NASIOC have lost friends or family to automobile wrecks. It is worse when it involves stupid sh** like racing or alcohol. If you want or need to race, get to a track please.

It was as sad to me as it was to everyone else that read it I'm sure, but come on, that's one of the more innocent joking comments you'll read on here. Lighten the hell up.

Not that the guy deserved to die, but he was acting like an *******, and could have killed others. It's somewhat furtunate he only killed himself.

Go read the comments in the threads about who get into accidents street racing and kill themselves. Let me know how many comments worse than "cool story bro" are made.

I'm not sure you know what that saying means, as it CERTAINLY doesn't apply here. I'm not apologizing for the dumb little joke (which was specifically invited by his post, btw)

If this was a thread about a kid that killed himself street racing/clowing around in his car on public roads, half the people in it would be anything but sensitive.
