Default accessport boost gauge question

ok, this might be a stupid question but i searched a bit and didnt come up with a satisfactory answer. im getting wastegate flutter and am thinking about messin with my wastegate actuator arm to tighten it up a bit, however, i dont want boost spikes. i dont have a boost gauge exept whats on the AP and was wondering if it is accurate enough to show me boost spikes and boost creep. i think it should but i wanted to check with the experts first. thanks guys

i wouldnt mess with the actuator arm for wastegate flutter... just me though. if it shows it, itll probably be too quick to see.

Have you messed with the exhaust at all? If so, check for an exhaust leak before messing with the arm. If you have a leak, it will usually cause a decent amount of wastegate flutter.

yeah i have a cobb uppipe and and a cobb tbe. i was really careful when installing them and used all new gaskets. what are the chances you think i have a leak? it sounds tight, ie no raspy tick tick tick noise. i was under the impression that because of my 3" exaust that it reduced the backpressure which helped close the wastegate, which now isnt getting as much pressure as before and is why it flutters under partial boost. is this wrong? thanks for any help

search way back and you can find a thread on wastegate flutter and what some people tried to fix it with.... no sense really though, doesnt harm anything. just annoying to some people..

tightening the wastegate got rid of most of the flutter for me. It also made my car hit target boost. My boost used to jump around alot, now the boost is steady (16.4psi in 4th gear according to AP) until it starts to taper off towards redline.

Try tightening it a turn or two and see if it helps. If you start to spike, undo a half turn at a time until it stops spiking. The AP is definitely accurate enough to notice any spiking.

yes, the live boost reading from the AP is good enough (actually it's better than most mechancial boost gauges) to get acurate readings from.

and go ahead and try to tighten the WG

no i'm being serious. tighten it down until you get spiking or overboost.

im still curious about this though, what is the best way to find if i have a leak? im kinda paraniod about having a leak so you saying that just made me doubt my former conclusion that i didnt have one. is it obvious when you have a leak? i took all my heat shields off while it was cold and while it was warming up i felt around the manifold to uppipe the uppipe to turbo and the turbo to downpipe and didnt feel anything. could i still have a leak. the wastegate flutter is bugging me and i want to get rid of it but id rather not mess with the wastegate if i dont have to. just from what ive heard from the thread on here about tightening it there were some not so good results from some people. so footnotes, if i have a leak would it likely be obvious or should i search for it more before messing with my wastegate? thanks for the help everyone

Try tightening the WG. If it doesn't help, then put it back to where it was. I was skeptical too, but could kick myself for not tightening it sooner.

If you had a leak you would feel/hear it.
