Question Videogame Split Screens...

Random thought:
In a split screen videogame, such as N64's Golden Eye or GC's Super Mario Kart DD, do you consider looking at another player cheating?

I personally think so, for the the following reasons/analogies:
1. It's like looking at other people's cards in a Poker game. Just because they're right next to you, doesn't mean you should look.

2. It's the same as looking at another person's screen in a multi-player FPS to find out where they're hiding.

3. It's especially so in a driving game, where the purpose was to simulate a driver's view. Looking at another driver's view is not an option in real driving.

I can go on, but I'd rather hear everyone's thoughts about the issue.

most split screen games, if you look at the other guy's screen, you're gonna crash your thingy or whatever

they tend to be fast paced.

no, I don't think it's cheating. they can look at your screen just as easily.

haha.. yeah, I consider it cheating. But you gotta do it becuase the dude you're playing is also doing it. No way you can sneek up on anyone.

I prefer the pc for multi-player gaming

To more accurately answer your questions:

1) Who plays multi-player poker on a console in split screen?

2) They're rarely "hiding" unless you're playing an FPS on a console multi-player, which is stupid anyway

3) Driving games... how is it cheating? I know you're behind me... seeing your screen isn't giving me any new information.

2) They're rarely "hiding" unless you're playing an FPS on a console multi-player, which is stupid anyway camping is one thing, but if you just see someone, and they duck behind something, they can see if you duck out the other way, or if you double back, it inhibits a large amount of stratigy when someone can see what you're try'n to do, Plus you can see when someone is zoomed in on you with a sniper riffle and can avoid and know which way to move based on seeing yourself in there screen. on and on with examples.

3) Driving games... how is it cheating? I know you're behind me... seeing your screen isn't giving me any new information. You can more easily see when someone's about to pass you, and cut them off, run them into a wall, and other dirty stuff that you can get away with when you take no damage, and only have to worry about 1 other car, the dude your crashing into a wall.

In general, I try not to play games like James Bond deathmatch on a console. I'm a purist when it comes to multiplayer FPS gaming (PC is the only way to fly). However, on the rare occasion where I have played these types of games with my non-hardcore gaming friends, everyone is too drunk/baked for it to matter anyway.

actually, no. But drunken friends do a lot of stupid things such as fight over a videogame win.

so please be objective so I can set that rule for them.

Multiplayer split screen console games are so 90s. Time to graduate to PC gaming.

p.s. yes, it's cheating.

p.p.s. When you create a poll, it puts the word "poll:" in there automatically.

yes, it's cheating...but sometimes it's hard not to catch a glimpse of something.

back in the day, me n my bro would attach a big piece of cardboard to the tv (sticking straight out) to block the screen off when we were playing split screen armored core...made it more fun.

This isn't poker. The screen is right in front of your face.

i think you're agreeing with me, but i cant be sure.

if you can't control it, then everyone can do it, so its not cheating.

My friends used to yell at me all the time about looking at their screens when playing Goldeneye...but I couldn't help it! My eyes just LOOKED.

It's all about "pistols only"...woot!

Seriously though...

Its a TV, you don't even need your peripheral (sp?) vision to see it. I can look at both screens without barely moving my eyes for them to notice it.

Its impossible not to see the other screen.
