Default 2020 Mercedes CLA Edition 1

2020 Mercedes CLA Edition 1 Teased Ahead Of Tomorrow's Reveal
It's our best look so far at the swoopy sedan.

We are only one day away from the world debut of the second-generation CLA, so it seems just about right this latest (and possibly final) teaser is quite revealing. Mercedes took to Facebook to share a video of the stylish sedan, while the company’s design boss Gorden Wagener shared an image on his personal Instagram account with the 2020 CLA hiding under covers.

Even though Mercedes now has the A-Class Sedan serving as the automaker’s entry-level sedan, the CLA is not going anywhere as the Germans believes there’s room in the lineup for the two models to peacefully co-exist. It’s a similar story with their rivals at BMW as they’re doing the same with the 1-Series Sedan and 2 Series Gran Coupe.

Getting back to the teaser at hand, it shows not just an ordinary 2020 CLA, but the generously equipped Edition 1 you’ll be able to buy during the model’s first year on the market. Aside from packing a lot of kit, the special version appears to have an assortment of orange accents inside and out to spice things up furthermore.

Rather than introducing the car at the forthcoming Detroit Auto Show, Mercedes has decided to skip NAIAS this year and unveil the new CLA in Las Vegas during the Consumer Electronics Show. That’s because the MBUX infotainment system already seen in the A-Class hatchback, sedan, and the B-Class minivan has learned new tech tricks we’ll see at the show.

Mercedes hasn’t said a word about the CLA’s technical specifications, but we’re expecting the oily bits to be essentially carried over from the more humble A-Class Sedan. We won’t be too surprised if the second generation will come with a bump in size considering the five-door hatchback is bigger than its predecessor. That will translate into a more spacious cabin, especially for rear passengers, and an increase in the trunk’s size as well.

We will have all the details about the 2020 Mercedes CLA tomorrow when the premium compact sedan will debut at CES.

2020 Mercedes CLA-Class Debuts With Svelte Shape, 221 HP On Tap

The interior comes standard with a pair of 7-inch screens, and buyers can opt for larger 10.25-inch displays.

The teasers are finally over, and the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class is here after an unveiling at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The sedan's new generation will arrive in late 2019, and Mercedes will announce pricing info closer to launch.

When it goes on sale in the U.S., the little four-door is only available as the CLA250 with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Buyers can choose between front- or all-wheel drive. The mill produces 221 horsepower (165 kilowatts) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque, which is quite an upgrade over the turbo 2.0-liter in the A220 sedan with 188 hp (140 kW) and 221 lb-ft (299 Nm). For now, Mercedes isn't offering many performance details for the 2020 CLA beyond its electronically limited top speed of 130 miles per hour (209 kilometers per hour).

The latest CLA-Class grows a little over the previous generation. Overall length is up 1.9 inches (48 millimeters) to 184.6 inches (4,688 mm), and the wheelbase increases by 1.1 inches (30 mm) to 107.4 inches (2,729 mm). The company also pushes out the wheel tracks by stretching them 2.5 inches (63 mm) at the front and 2.2 inches (55 mm) at the rear. The greater size doesn't translate to big boosts in cabin space because front legroom decreases by 0.04 inches (1 mm) and rear legroom grows by 1 mm. In the trunk, cargo capacity decreases by 0.35 cubic feet (10 liters) to a total of 16.24 cubic feet (460 liters).

On the inside, the CLA-Class comes with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) software, and the standard cabin features a pair of seven-inch displays – one for the instruments and other for the infotainment system. Customers can upgrade to two 10.25-inch screens for a more eye-catching view. Another option adds gesture control to the tech that lets occupants just wave their hands to make selections, rather than using the usual touchpad on the center console. Further available improvements include navigation and a Burmester Surround Sound System.

The 2020 CLA comes standard with an Active Brake Assist system that can automatically slow the sedan to avoid collisions with vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. However, the optional Driver Assistance Package loads the vehicle with helpful driving aids. It includes features like adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, lane keep assist, speed limit sign recognition, and blind spot monitoring.

If Mercedes can attract Kia buyers they’ll have won.

The more I look at the pic, the worse it gets. It's just so damn awful and it's not inline with traditional Mercedes.

Default 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA Will Offer 300- and 400-Horsepower Variants

2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA Will Offer 300- and 400-Horsepower Variants

The baby CLS AMG arrives in two forms: CLA 35 takes on the BMW M240i xDrive and the Audi S3, while the CLA 45 challenges the Audi RS3 and BMW M2.

First, the Stuttgart-based automaker revealed the standard version of the all-new second-generation CLA-Class at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show in January of this year. Now, the high-performance flagships are here and ready to take a bow. Please stand at attention as we introduce you to the new top-tier introductory hotness, the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and CLA 45.

Similar to the AMG versions of the A-Class sedan, the more curvaceous and stylish CLA AMG comes in two forms. Both utilize the companies newest high-performance 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine, which is internally dubbed the “M139.” As for the CLA 35, the lower-tier, though nonetheless hot-hatch is tuned to churn out an impressive 302 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.

But the true powerhouse is the CLA 45. Serving up 382 hp and 354 lb-ft of twist, though it might not be as powerful as the Mercedes-AMG A45 S, it still has plenty of oomph on tap. Both channel their power to all four wheels via an AMG Performance 4MATIC system through an AMG Speedshift DCT-8G dual-clutch eight-speed automatic. But that’s not all as the latest 4MATIC all-wheel drive system now has a “Drift” mode, where it configures the AMG Torque Control differentials for some good ‘ol sideways action. There, two multi-disc clutches manage the output for each real wheel and just like its big brother the E63, smokes the tires to your heart's content.

"We have completely redesigned our "45" models—from the engine and transmission through the chassis, the elaborately constructed drivetrain to the body structure and of course the design itself—all with one goal: to raise vehicle dynamics and the sporty driving experience to a level previously unimaginable in the compact class,” says Tobias Moers, AMG’s chairman, in the company’s official statement. “With the presentation of this, our most powerful and most dynamic compact sports car, we are also reinforcing the significance of this segment for our growth strategy.

Like its A-Class sibling, the CLA and its AMG variants come with similar amounts of tech and options. That, of course, means Mercedes-Benz’s innovative User Interface (MBUX) is an optional extra, offering dual 7-inch widescreen high-definition displays. Other options include Mercedes-Benz’s latest DISTRONIC radar-guided adaptive cruise control, Active Steering Assist, and a range of passive and active safety assistants.

Should neither the CLA 35 or the 45 models offer enough performance right from the get-go, buyers can spring for an adaptive suspension setup dubbed AMG Ride Control, an aerodynamic body kit package, and AMG sport seats for the 35. The 45, however, bundles that up in the AMG Dynamic Plus Package, which gives the AMG Ride Control two selectable modes, beefier brakes, and a boosted top speed of up to 167 mph versus the usual 155.

The new 2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and CLA 45 are scheduled to hit dealerships sometime at the end of this year to take on the Audi S3 and the BMW M240i xDrive for the 35 models, as well as the Audi RS3 and BMW M2 for the 45. Pricing should be announced closer to that date.

You need to sit in one. It’s by far the best most user friendly dash layout of current generation cars and the display quality second to none. It’s the first integration of infotainment system that’s still in the driver’s line of sight. By far the best interior design I’ve seen and I’m no MB fan. I expect most manufacturers will be emulating this layout going forward.

As do I. The pic on this post with the red accent line on the bumper and wheels makes it look cheap like the forester sport whatever. But if you just think about it in that MB matte black with a front lip on it... now you’ve got something.
