Default Registering an Out os State Salvage car in MA

Ok, not sure if anyone has faced this situaiton before, but maybe someone can help.
I am looking at a car, but it was a former NY salvage. It has been rebuilt but brought to inspection and given a new NYS 5 digit vin number.

Now i know in MA you have it reinspected, and it gets a rebuilt title. I am not familiar with NY's procedures.

I am worries I will not be able to register and title it in MA due to the Re-vin.

Anyone be able to clue me in or help me out here? Cant call my insurance agent and ask them till Monday.

Thanks!
Barry

both not open till Monday, when I can then call.

But also, what is required and the hassle it may present are two seperate things. It may look simple 'by the book', but I am also hoping to find someone that has done it and can tell me how hard it may be.

Getting a rebuilt title in MA for a former Salvage vehicle is a HUGE PITA, a lot worse than it seems. I have done this, and owuld not do it again by choice. Trying to avoid finding out the hard way

Patience is also a wonderful invention too.

You'll probably be hard pressed to find someone here with that situation, but I know Zac's (1stgearsyncro) original WRX was a salvage, he may be able to help.

Otherwise, as with everything else with the RMV, the only way to know is to go to the registry.

I'm pretty sure that if a car has an out of state salvage title it can be registered in state as clean. I once saw a used car that had a "clean NY title" but was salvage in MA.

Have you ever actually tried to call the RMV? Nevermind trying to get someone with a clue.
He's probably trying to avoid taking time off of work to go to a branch. It's a perfectly legit question.

Although I know more that I want to about doing the salvage/reconstruction title process (and the loop holes that can benefit you greatly.....no, I won't discuss them on a public forum), I'm not sure either on a NY retitled car. I would also agree that you'll need to ask someone at the local RMV. Personally, I'd go in, talk with someone who won't have a clue, they'll call over the supervisor and they'll tell you what they believe. Then when you come back, have that supervisor's name and if there's any issues ask for them.

The registry can be one big game. I know in titling a previously untitled 51 Ford, there's hoops they tell you to jump through. You don't have to jump through their hoops if you provide some of what they want and enough other stuff that they don't need to sufficiently confuse them (I feel like a Monte Python skit coming) and you walk out with what you need for less (or way more) than you expected to pay.

If you need a name, there's a guy who I believe is in Bridgewater named officer Rodregez (sp?) at the highway dept salvage title place who a lot of the Cobra guys call. He might be able to tell you what you need to know.

The number for each highway dept for salvage title is on massrmv.com. I think Westfield is your closest one.
