I'm going to assume bought and replaced the assembly, which almost any monkey with a wrench should be able to do in their driveway. (That's what I would have done...)

What's the code? Might be able to give you the most common failures but that's about it.

I run a small service department, seen a few gems over the years. There is no way anyone can work in this industry and still have faith in humanity.

Some highlights:

-Remember those "tornado" air filter inserts? Found a homemade one (as in a bit of sheet-metal cut with tin-snips and bent into shape) stuck in someones MAF

-Had a kid that drove his car off the road, over some rocks, bashed a hole in the oil pan... then drove it home... One less VR6 Jetta on the road now.

-Just yesterday we had someone drop off a Dodge Caravan who wanted the A/C lines to the rear A/C unit replaced (big job). Do you want us to diagnose it? Nope, just do it. Guess what buddy, the lines weren't your problem.

I also do Emissions testing, on 1996 and newer cars it's just a simple OBD test, so we know that if the MIL is on they're going to fail. I try to be nice and tell people before we do the test, you wouldn't believe the grief I get. "No that's not because of an emissions problem, I just need an oil change" or "my mechanic told me it was just a sensor and I shouldn't worry about it" or "The kid at autozone told me is was a o2 sensor so I replaced it but the light is still on" Ect...

Yet somehow it's my fault when they fail

I can't wait to get out of this industry...

a long lasting solution:

Before sanding tape off around headlight:

wet sand the old stuff off the head light. use 600 grit and slowly work your way to 1000 grit. If there is bad pitting work up to 3,000 grit.

Best practice is to use an air powered disk because it speeds things up
This is what it will look like after sanding you want nothing to look shinny (this is a different headlight by the way)

Then clean the headlight with a good cleaner that doesn't leave residue (denatured alcohol). Allow the alcohol to evaporate, use a hair dryer or heat gun to make sure its all gone

Then spray with renulight. You spray this on thick, not like painting at all you want it to run to the bottom of the headlight. Basically follow the instructions on the can. After spraying and letting it to set for about 10 mins, make sure there are no more runs and put car under the sun. So it needs to be a sunny non windy day, or you can put UV lights on the lights to cure inside (takes much longer). They will look brand new if you take your time. We do this at the shop and get payed 100 to do it, with a 3yr/36k warranty. Works great.

Here is a link to the product we use

I HATE EMISSIONS. Run by the state and the ones that usually fail are huge POS and the owners have no money and want it fixed for nothing.

The worst one I ever saw was a rear rotor (not vented) that was literally paper thin and had actually separated from the hat, leaving just a flat ring of metal.

Of course me and the tech spent the next ten minutes throwing it at an old cardboard box doing our best Xena impression

The brake pads had long since fallen out and the pistons were following close behind. But according to the customer it had only been making noise since yesterday

Who would of thought that finding parts for an evo would be such a pain.

From our usual suppliers, not online.

But he is fixing some things so that's good

His brakes howled for about a year before I finally convinced him to just let me fix it. Pistons and sliders were seized on that corner.

I've seen someone driving on a rotor like that in Philadelphia before. It made the worst sound imaginable...

I don't see the problem They still have one good brake pad, so they're fine. I think you guys are just trying to rip off the customer
