I ordered everything yesterday. 9kg/7kg spring setup from TiC and 4150 and their new front camber plates from AST. It will be several weeks before I receive it but it should be interesting to see how all this works for double duty.

I think you can make them work with the right bars.

I sold the car like this (IIRC)
550/500
-3.5/-1.4
24mm/17mm
13.6" all around

The car worked really well like this on asphalt. I was trying very very hard to keep the inside rear from lifting, thus the smaller than stock rear bar. I'm not even sure in retrospect that was an important goal. I think on concrete you'd need either more rear spring, less camber, a higher rear ride height or all of the above. Also, I like the car to be pushy-to-neutral, some people like it a little more twitchy.

One other thing is, look into the rear diff, whether it's regular rebuilds, or maybe some different fluid that can make it lock up better. That's one thing I didn't really think about until after I sold it.

The real answer is probably a BRZ though.

I think you're right about the BRZ. With the current state of affairs I don't have grand hopes of the car becoming nationally competitive. Keep it fun to drive and plenty competitive for local events (on asphalt). I'll test it out at a big event once in a while, but I'll be more likely to co-drive with a friend that has a nationally prepped car if I hope to to be competitive on that scale.

I do enjoy driving the car locally though. So, keeping it decent on the street and pretty fun on course is the main goal. I'm leaning toward an adjustable 24mm front bar and more rear spring to start the season out. Play with the front bar adjustments and then make the decision where to go next after a few events and getting an idea of what I want to change.

The less grip your local site has, the more competitive you can be

There's a quarry nearby but then we got a fancy blower to ensure the course is good and cleared off

What's the highest safe rev limit we can set? I saw my tuner set it for 7200 and was curious how much higher it could go. I only ask because we do run on some very small lots in town for PCA events where reving higher in 1st would save a shift.

For longevity sake not sure if you would want to be spinning your 2.5 that high all the time. Higher risk for an eventual spun bearing IMO.

HP+ pads installed. Kinda really noisy sometimes, but not all the time. Otherwise awesome bite, even in the cold.

Damnit why is it still almost a month to my first event?

Going to be getting mine in too very soon. Going from some pretty standard stuff which took me forever to slow down so the extra bite, etc. is going to be wow!

Which event will you be down for? How are they in the morning as far bite? One thing I noticed with girodisc magic pads was that they're kinda noisy when cold but still have good bite.

Can't wait to get the new tires on the car. They came in yesterday but I'm still waiting on my wheels :/

Really?? My magic pads have never made a single noise and dust hardly at all... in fact I'm on the sames set since I first put them in June of 2010 (around 40k miles)

I'm tempted at trying some HP+'s in the rear only to try and shift my bias backwards though...

Yeah. They're kinda dusty. And only loud for a few minutes. But like you said they are wearing quite well.

Mr. Me:

I think I'll be down for the WW event(s?). The BSCC doesn't mesh well with celebrating St. Patty's day the night before...

As far as the pads, they're good enough for my commute in the cold mornings. And I haven't heard any noise out of them since driving home from the shop. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing...

Got my AST 4150s installed with 9kg/7kg. Found some things I'd like different with the valving so I'm sending the rears back for a change next week, to be expected as I'm one of the first ones (TiC has the other set). I'm going to run them this weekend in a small lot to see how they do at the current levels.

I ran HP+'s last season, and yes they did have great bite...after they warmed up. My first run was usually a throw-away time because I would forget that my pads were cold and plow through the first turn. By the second run there were right up to temp.

This can be avoid by "dragging" your pads when you are rolling up to the start...apply light/moderate brake pressure while keeping your momentum with the throttle. You can also do a series of quick starts and stops while driving up to the line. Just be careful when people are in front of you

As far as noise, when they were new, they were noisy when cold, but the noise went away when warmed up. It was tough to get them up to temp under normal street driving. As the pads wore on...they were pretty much noisy almost all the time. I'll quote my buddy's response to noisy pads...."race brakes YO!"

Brake dust, yep, it was there...I just got used to it and cleaned my wheels regularly...and said "forget it" on occasion.

Oh, and a little fact about brake dust (I learned this from a Brembo rep) - its actually rotor material, not pad material. Basically more aggressive brake pads are harder on the rotors and cut into them faster and cause the metal to shed quicker. If you have magnetic numbers, you may also notice brake dust sticking to your numbers, like I did.

Lucky you, first set of 4150's! We will all be looking forward to hearing the performance.

Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about the dampening? Too harsh, soft, etc?

Yeah just a preference in curves (low speed compression specifically). Overall they worked great this weekend but the course was basically an oval in a pretty small lot. In a couple weeks I'll try again in a slightly larger lot and a week after that in a big lot. I should have the rears back by then and can comment on the entire package. I'm very pleased how well the fronts ride with 9kg springs, except for really bad roads, its better than OEM or the KW Variant 1.

Anyone else with the TBW having problems with the throttle not closing when you lift off the gas? I found lots of reference to it but I never saw if there is a way to fix/reduce this or if its just life with the system. I never noticed this in the 2012 WRX, just the 06.

I've driven tbw cars before and have noticed a slight lag between letting off the throttle and the car responding to it. It's a little weird to get used to. I think it was also and 06 if that matters.

It's very pronounced in 1st gear, especially at the PCA events where I was run either the STX or stage2 tune thought its much worse with the stage 2. It's to the point where I have to lift off a good deal earlier than I would to anticipate it. I've never noticed this with the 2012 so I'm hoping there is something that can be changed to help with it other then LFB'ing and trying to overcome it with brake power.

Ooohhh yeah I do... pretty much my only complaint after performing whole 07 swap.

Unfortunately, it's not really something that can be fixed. I spoke with my tuner, and he said he could mess with the throttle table, but it's still going to be apparent.

Default Happy Birthday to me!

My AST 4150's FINALLY showed up.

They didn't make it in time for Spring Nats, but I have a long weekend to get the AST's and a few other parts installed.
