First time 1/4" mile pass. 98 Forester 12.09@114
If all goes well, Saturday 11/5 should be first pass with the Forester. Nervous as **** though since im on my 280k mile stock 5mt after breaking 2nd and 3rd gears in my other one. I just want to get a number on it. I'm feeling the 11/12 second border but havent ever really launched it and its gonna be all in the launch.
Any tips? plans to go fuel cut 4500 and slip it out slow as i can without welding the feramic to the flywheel. 1st is gonna run out fast so making a timely shift to second is the next hurdle, besides keeping the teeth attached update: did the race, best time was 12.09 at 114. added boost, went for 11's and the clutch had other plans

My advice would be not to go out with the expectation of running a great ET. I assume it's your first time drag racing since you are asking for advice. I would launch about 1000-1500rpm above peak torque/boost, slip the clutch (don't dump it) and be ready for that 2nd gear shift. Once you have a trap speed you can better gauge the ET the car is capable of. What kind of tires do you have?

worn out falken 245/40/18's. I actually wanted to get a little wheel spin off the line. On the street anyway, when i get a line spin, it spools it up quicker and takes off when it hooks up.

Launching on the street and launching at the track are totally different. Best of luck with your trans!

I personally start with a run with out a true "launch" and go from there after seeing the trap and focusing on the shifts. Plus depending on how your clutch is mine always liked a little heat in it before a hard quick slip style launch. Also If you really got that pig down to 2800lbs GREAT job!!! |

So no "launch" first run. I'll try that. I should proabaly do another wot log anyway. Its not very often i get to wind out 4th gear. Which i suspect will be wound out to like 7k saturday. I think 4th goes to around 120 in my car by 7k
cockpit under hood interior before dash gutting last 5mt lol, i drove it home like that. 1st and 4th. wouldnt have been as bad but the 4th gear synchro was shot too and would only let me in around 2k rpm Last edited by no694terry; 11-03-2016 at 11:22 AM. |

Yes a little wheel spin is good but excessive will add time to your 60ft. If you get excessive wheel spin I would drop the tire pressure a bit. If you start getting wheel hop you need to put a little pressure back in and try to find the happy median. Wheel hop = bad- things will break (been there, done that, got the t-shirt )

Better snag a box for it if you don't already have one. I had mine in the trunk strapped down and they made me put it in a box sense I didn't have a true firewall between me and the battery. Not sure your local rules I just know I had that issue once.

What color/brand of gold paint is that on your manifold? Looks like a perfect gold!

hey if it isnt the emanage guy. Its rustoleum hammered copper that didnt come out very hammered. It was the poll winner on rs25. i could care less what stuff looks like. But i shaved and sand blasted the manifold, i wanted something to protect the aluminum from oxidizing

considered a box but i thought it was only needed for vented batteries. We'll see what happens, If all goes well, next year i need to come back with a roll bar too

Not sure the specifics of the rule, just know they gave me a hard time and its not a vented battery. Just figured I would give you a heads up as to my experience.

haha. up until friday, i had my battery in there. now its behind the seat. Once it freezes out, im going to chip off more sound deadening and cut out and replace spare well with a thin sheet of aluminum. My unrealistic goal's a metric ton.
