so..... I know I searching for a number here but.... Can you hit 400hp on a usdm sti with this turbo? if so what mods on top of a typical stage two set up, would you need to get to this number on a Dynojet or DynoDynamics??

The intecooler fitment issue is only on the new 08 STi models. The reason for that, is the new 08 STi's use a intercooler that is about 2" wider then the GD STi intercoolers. So if you have a 2002-2007 Turbo Impreza you will not have to worry about this. This turbo was designed on the GD chassis Impreza, before the GR was even available. So their was no way of having APS know the issue was going to arise until they got their hands on the new STi, by which point the SS turbos have already been manufactured. As for grinding the block, you have to do this with almost any TD-06 compressor side turbo. Do to the position of how the turbo sits from the factory, you dont have allot of room to put a huge cold side housing. So you can ether grind down a little off the block( I know this may scare some people, but we did this to our brand new 08 Sti, and many people have done this in the past with other manufactures turbos with equally large compressor side turbos that sit in the stock location) or a little off the turbo( this is the one you dont want to be grinding, as you create a potencial hot spot). The location of where you are grinding on the block is not going to effect the structural rigidity of the motor, so its nothing to worry about. |

Thanks Stames... I'm talking with no NAwz thanks. I'm asking if this along with injectors, top mount or front mount, stage 2 stuff, would make 400hp on a usdm sti. This particular turbo is looking pretty nice and the price is really the best part.

If you where at sea level, with a FMIC, Turbo Inlet, Fuel Pump,Turbo inlet hose, Race gas, and a dynopack dyno it should be able to get close to those numbers.

Grinding down the block will be regardless of the chassis. However it will fit with APS TMIC with no issues. The fitment issue of the IC is only on a 2008+ STi using the stock TMIC. However a EWG setup will fix the issue on the new models.

rally sport direct.
hey thanks for the feedback. i want big power and from what i have read this is the new bad boy on the block...literally. what PE injector will i need to produce around 300whp? i'm stuck with a set of PE 510cc's already unopened brand new. i'm sure you know at 43lbs of fuel pressure they actually flow 550cc's like denso pinks. i don't want to have to try to return them to power enterprise for bigger ones but will if i have to. can i get those to work at safe idc if i only want to tune this turbo down to like 300whp? your probally wondering why i want to go ss45 for 300 horse. i'm considering the little brother ss42.(you carry that right?) eventually my 123k 2.0 will break something. then i'll either stroke it or go ej257. i don't want to have to buy a bigger turbo when my new block can make more power. and i don't think my stock internals would be happy with 22psi and 380whp. not to mention my glass box of a trans. i will buy from you when i am ready. thanks again. jake |

For injectors you will need a minimum of a 650, and a 750inj is highly recommended. The SS42 will be a great turbo for you 2.0L, however will choke engine flow on a bigger then a 2.0L motor. So if you are planning on upping the displacement in the future, I would recommend to do the SS45. We do sell both turbo's, however have already seen the down sides of running the SS42 on a 2.5L motor. As the TQ numbers are great, but similar to stock VF turbo's the power starts dropping off do to the smaller wheel in the turbo ment for smaller displacement motors. reread that doesn't sound right.^^^
ss42=2.0 ss45=2.5 so i guess i'll being calling PE and see if they'll swap my 510's for 710's.i realize i'll have to pay a little on top. if they won't i'll be pist. |

Interesting.
This is equivalent to 242kw atw on the DD dyno for a 2L. Saw a graph of another Aust 2.35 SS45 which achieved abt 240 kw atw on a similar dyno. I did a rpm comparison (3000-7000) and I'm quite amazed the 2.0L SS42 matches closely to the 2.35L SS45 in terms of power delivery. Both setups peak at 6k rpm. The torque shld be much better on the 2.35 logically, but can't tell for sure as there aren't torque curves to compare. Judging from this, it does appear a 2L SS42 is capable enough. Upgrading to a 2.35 SS45 doesn't appear to be worthwhile Last edited by G-See; 01-21-2009 at 01:19 PM. |

I wld have expected the 2.35 to bring on the power much faster than a 2L with a smaller housing. From my comparison, the 2L in fact had more power from 4000-6000 rpm (every 500 point). Its as good as saying the extra displacement doesn't make a difference.

I just got home from SLC and PC Utah. I was surprised at how crappy the gas was there. No kidding, for those who don't know, the options there are 85, 88 (I think), and 91 octane. I thought it was pretty much just CA that had the terrible fuel.
The smog there was terrible as well. Supposedly, it is a problem whenever you guys don't get regular storms to blow it out of the valley. Great winter resorts though. I'll be back. |
