Default 2026 subaru outback news?!

https://www.reddit.com/r/subaru/comm...design_thread/
Some subaru associates have gone to subaru dealers only conference and seen the beauty in person. Due to the strict NDA, they are saying what they saw it bits and pieces as to not gave too much away. However I also figured I start a new subaru outback thread as we start to get more official info from subaru

From the bits and pieces, it seems that no longer being tied down by a legacy sedan body has freed it from the wagon clutches and has allowed it to spread its wings. My only concern is for the customers who appreciate and love the wagon body due to its unique look and shape. The subaru layback comes to mind to replace what the outback was. It sounds like it is competing with the Honda trailsport

A couple of shares there that really shouldn't have been shared. Lower level stuff though. We're not even supposed to talk about when it's revealed.

I agree with that. I believe we will get more official news and possible spyshots confirming what they saw as the months go forward. Drive testing something so unique that it doesn't look like an outback might work to its advantage

I expect we will see some major technological breakthroughs. They'll have figured out how to make the entire body cladding.

says its a cross between an outback and a land cruiser.

My brain is trying to get my head around that. A GX or LC is slated to be the next SCRAPPYDO mobile. But I like more wanna square box looking SUV's running around. Wish Mitsubishi would give us a real bad ass Pajero here.

Land Cruiser tall box design would be great. I do appreciate the car-like seating position in the Outback, but the cargo space is hindered by the rear opening. Hopefully it gets a rugged style like the new LC.

My biggest question is choice of engines. If it closer to the land cruiser in heft, the 180hp 2.5 won't cut it power and may result in less fuel efficiency

A more rugged style could come in a wilderness trim of the vehicle, unless they designed it to not require one

Yes, of course. But I mean the overall style moving into a more rugged look. The LC went from refined to chiseled. Almost old school SUV.

Yup, and the reaction to that chisled look has been overwhelmingly positive. Hyundai is already copying it. Subaru would be wise to follow. But they need more power. The LC engine is hybrid and seems to be sweet.

If the Outback is no longer in the iconic wagon style then I'd have zero interest in it moving forward. Not everything needs to be a big chunky SUV. It'd also be a big loss in general for the North American market, as every other station wagon still sold is significantly more expensive.

the subaru layback would be a viable replacement if the wagon body really has been lost with the new outback. Such a loss may anger faithful outback owners

I'm surprised they haven't announced bringing the LeBack to our market. It would do well here. I think it would appeal to people who love their Crosstrek but wished it had a little more rear hatch area.

The layback could serve as a viable replacement for both the legacy and if the outback has lost its wagon body. Its not as long as the outback and only 7.8 inches off the ground. So it would not step on the new outback toes. The 180hp engine is enough for the base engine. They would have the choice of the upcoming hybrid engine or 2.4xt as the more powerful engine.

yeah hurting the fuel efficiency it has now, unless the new 2.5 hybrid is meant to counter that

He finally brought out the popcorn, but from what saw, you need more bags. You are right though. As more info and possible spyshots release, there will be much more conversation. However based on what we are hearing about the upcoming vehicle, our imaginations will run wild with possible visuals. You must wonder though, what do you show at the LA auto show, redesigned ascent or the brand new outback to shake things so to speak

Even if they added 2.4 turbo hybrid to the outback, it would not cost that much. The cost would be slightly more than a current outback xt touring

I'm all for the Outback abandoning the wagon body style, if it means we get the Layback. Doubly so if we get the Levorg/WRX wagon.

Can we just assume the Outback will become more of a two-row Ascent like the Honda Passport and CX-70? Seems like a logical jump for Subaru. Switch from Legacy based to Ascent based.

I was thinking that also. I believe it will remain a 5 seater. We already have the ascent for a 3 row. But there must be a proper distinction between the new outback and the ascent if it is no longer a wagon body. The outback now has the chance to built for what it's name implies. If too many subaru customers revolt about the loss of the wagon body, then they should make a corporate decision to either bring over the layback or introduce a new vehicle to compensate angry customers for the loss of the wagon

Stay with me here. A WRX can be 50k.

A loaded up hybrid outback with a turbo motor (which it will need) could easily be mid 60's, just like the Jeep GC, the LC, and just about EVERY OTHER off road 6 seater SUV. Market will crash soon enough and incentives will appear. We are seeing 6000-8000 off Grand Cherokees finally. Curse you toyota for your never ending resale value!!!
