Default JDM Version 7 STi going into my 99 RS project thread!

Here we go… after 2 years (since I got my car) I have finally purchased an STi Version 7 Drivetrain. The install will be a complete Version 7 running hardware. After months of reading threads about other peoples installs to gain vital information about it, I hope that this thread can provide even further information about the process. Of course, I hope it can also provide me with information if I get stuck (which I will!)

The drivetrain includes thus far:

- Engine: EJ207… version 7 with crossmember
- Transmission: TY856WB1CA (suretrack, non dccd)
- Driveshafts
- Rear subframe, rear 180
- V7 suspension and sway bars
- Brembo brakes
- Complete wiring harness (incredibly uncut) and ECU
- Aluminum a-arms.
- All sensors

What im missing: might need some help here

- MAF (of course… there must be some huge surplus of MAF’s in japan cause they never make it here) most likely by one new from subaruparts.com
- Intake (suggestions?)
- Exhaust (suggestions?) im thinking custom made double resonated non muffled cartback. Don’t want to be noticeably loud.
- Power steering lines and reservoir. I hear these are expensive so if anyone has some from a wrx lying around please let me know
- Fuel pump (ebay!) walbro 255
- Wrx dash. Does anyone know which dash will work with the stock wiring… aside from the jdm version 7 dash! (I don’t feel like splicing wires)

Im sure I left something out. So please add it in if you can.

Also, any tips or tricks about this install are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Stay tuned for pictures and updates on this project.

are you sure you want to do the wrx dash?

that adds a bunch of work to the project .. espically if you don't have the cluster (not listed above) and a non dccd tranny

YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SPLICE WIRES no ifs ands or buts about it

Fuel pump controller...the jdm v7 should have come with it. You may not have one as they are part of the rear harness. They are about 120-150 new from a dealer an 02 usdm wrx one will work fine.

you can use the MAF, Ps pump and lines, intake, air box, exhaust, and boost control valve for a wrx. That is what i didn in mine, and there is no problems

Did you find out if this 'incredibly uncut' harness had the fuel pump controller?

Looks like you have a MY2001 JDM motor there...what's the white tag say?

The RS brake lines will work.

The axle stub looks correct for a v7...something must be up with the tranny, can you get a pic of what it looks like.

I bet i can guess where you got this drivetrain...make sure to compression test it. Let me know how much you spend in extra parts also to get it to work.

Good luck.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...ck/prep002.jpg

heres the front diff housing area:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y17...ck/prep014.jpg

and if someone has a pic of an fpc then i can tell you if i have it or not.
all the plugs on the engine and trans mission match up to those on the harness. as soon as i get a wiring diagram from my friend im going to start removing what is not necessary from the harness.

thanks for the info on the brake lines

nother question... my rs is pull type clutch and the sti is push type. i havent looked closely at my master cylinder yet. but im guessing i need one from a wrx

thanks for all the info

No master cylinder...just the slave cylinder iirc. Even then you can use a usdm wrx 5mt slave also. Anything that uses a pull clutch also. (I believe rs is push type)

Yea looks like you should have a stub coming out of there. Did you run the tranny numbers to see what year it is...i think the later models have a stub on the axles as opposed to the tranny.

The FPC should be a white box about 4 inches by 2 inches and 1 inch wide (give or take) and i think it says denso on it iirc.

Did you get your drivetrain from a shop in montreal?

Default mtl

i got the engine in mtl but not from a shop. you might be thinking of sunrise or jdm import. i checked them out... the engines looked clean but all the wires were really butchered. i checked out lachute too. they had some nice stuff. very complete kits.. but they had nothing in when the time to buy came. nice guys there.

as for the clutch. it looks like the 6spd pushes and my rs pulls. im going to have a closer look. but i think i can just hook the slave up to the rs master.

going to go sort through wiring today. and look for that fpc!

Default confusion

... i just realized i used the wrong word about the dash. i just want to insert a wrx or jdm sti 2002-2004 (or newer if they work?) gauge cluster in place of the one from the rs so that i can simply plug it in.... plus obviously i need the 9000rpm tach in the middle

I don't think that cluster will fit into the dash without some "customization" aka sawzall.

The RS is a push type clutch and the turbo subaru's are pull type, and yes you can resuse your master cylinder and swap the slave.
