Angry Competition stage 2 clutch / transmission violent rattle

So I'm definitely at or past the break in period and my clutch or transmission still rattles fairly violently. I replaced the clutch along with a new oem flywheel and bearings. Used a new act throw out bearing as well. Used spec torque on pressure plate.

It sounds like the car is about to fall apart in first gear (taking off) due to how bad it shakes. I can also hear clunking below the car in the front. Also, in reverse, it chatters so bad I feel the transmission slapping the bottom of the car... Or something... I have to slip in higher than usual rpms, like 2k so it doesn't chatter...

I have brand new group n motor mounts, pitch stop, and transmission mount. Also double checked everything was tightened down... So what feels like it's slapping the bottom of the car? And the chatter?

I'm so frustrated with this car....

Full face clutch what company? Is the only thing you have oem the flywheel? What pilot bearing did you use? Heads up, spec is garbage. If you used their pilot bearing they are the worst. They give you locktite to hold it in place which is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. My trans made a lot of noise till this garbage clutch couldn't handle maybe 400 ft lbs of tq when it was rated for 500.

I went through so many different clutch and flywheel set ups trying to get rid of a nasty decel noise. When the spec went out I said screw it and just went with the act flywheel and the 6 puck so it would hold. Coincidentally it went away with the stock pilot bearing. Then I sold the car.

"Competition" is the clutch company I believe. http://www.competitionclutch.com/pro...dex.php?id=400

Used OEM flywheel and pilot bearing - from what I hear, their pilot bearings are superb and are better to use than the pilot bearing that came with the clutch kit, so we used it.. I didn't see any loctite or anything on it, so I'm not sure - maybe you got a one-off?

No, it was a spelled pilot beating. The good one was the Oem bearing. Do you used an Oem flywheel, pilot bearing, act throw out bearing, spec pressure plate, and a competition clutch disc? Why not get a new pressure plate while you're in there?

I did!

Here's the parts list:

  • New OE Flywheel
  • New OE Pilot bearing
  • New Competition Clutch: Stage 2 Full-face sprung clutch
  • New Competition Clutch Pressure Plate - supposed to handle ~80% increase
  • New ACT Release (throw out) bearing

does this help?

Could be improper install. I know a lot of people don't recommend using the throw out bearings that come in kits, I have always tossed them and used oe. Could always rev higher like you said you do. 2k isn't going to hurt it unless you sit there and slip a lot.

how was the break-in period, pretty violent? how long do you think until you noticed the chatter had gone away?

I'm thinking mine is starting to go away, but when motor is at operating temp, the chatter comes back.. smooth as butter when cold though!

hello,
there was just a about 25% stiffer n it was very grabby in the break in process. No extra Noise or chatter.
I would call them up and ask for tech support.
During install did you use alot of grease or very little??
send me a pm if u need

i am in the exact same situation as you man.

had my clutch in for about 6k miles.

it's a comp stage 3 with their flywheel. it is horrible. an absolute nightmare to drive. violent shaking on take off and a ton of noise on deceleration. it's bad.

i'm not sure what to do.

Dang, 6k miles! I'd call competition clutch company and talk to them, you should definitely be broken in unless you've burned up the flywheel during break-in.

I spun a bearing recently but I think mine was just starting to go smooth. Damn!

Dude he has a stage 3 clutch. The purpose of getting a better clutch is clamping force and being able to hold the power you're putting down. Once you start doing that all expectations of having a clutch that engages smoothly are gone. You children need to get that I. Your heads.

From what I saw, the stage 3 is still a sprung clutch, though about twice as strong as the stage 2.

Wouldn't the fact that this is full face and sprung it shouldn't chatter, or why would it?

My bad for misunderstanding..

So because it's a full face clutch it should drive like stock? Lol. It says it's capable it says it can hold 150% more then stock....how do you think they do that? You don't just make a clutch that can hold more tq without giving up something.
