Default 06 TR cat-back exhaust on 06i

Well since we now have someone that did a STi axelback on their impreza, I wanted to see what a TR exhaust sounded like. The main reason I went with the 06 TR exhaust is, I still wanted a single tip like the STi, but I didnt want to lose and torque, which seems to be an issue with the STi one.

Installation: the flange on the TR midpipe doesnt mate up to the catalytic converter, so we had to reuse the one from the stock midpipe, which was good cause were we did that we added the 3 inch extension that was needed to make everything fit nicely. Other then that, everything was an absolute breeze.

Review: AWESOME! It sounds almost like my dads 04 STi, its quiet, but when you get on it, you know its there and it sounds great. Reving it sound real nice too, lots of "popping" but alas no boxer rumble (thanks to EL headers). But at least its better sounding then stock lol.

Performance: Not sure of any hp gains, there is definitly NO loss of torque which is a beautiful thing. The engine revs much faster and easier then before and feels very responsive now. All in all for a super cheap upgrade I am very VERY happy with, and am looking forward to having an intake put on which should make it a bit louder still. If you're thinking about it GET IT, as opposed to "OTHER" people saying I wasting my money, tsk tsk.

I'll have sound clips up some time.

Sounds like fun man! I just need to find a WRX/STi exhaust for my car now

EDIT: Ok, I only want a WRX exhaust now with the 2.25" piping...too many complaints from J-Chow about torque loss with his STi axleback 2.5"! LOL

Thumbs up another review

Well I've had my 06 WRX cat-back exhaust on my 06 2.5i wagon for a week/500 miles and so far I'd have to agree completely with neomax, excellent upgrade with no downside for minimal $$$

No issues so far with noise or droning in any driving situation and I think it sounds better above 4k rpms without actually being louder. It's not even close to loud but the car doesn't sound like a sewing machine anymore, it gives it a mellow "car" sound. For me the biggest improvement in sound is during downshifts And as neomax mentioned, without claiming a HP increase, the car seems to pull a bit harder/quicker across the whole RPM range.

So for a total of $150 (installed) I got a sweet sounding exhaust that looks better than stock with no downside and a slight bump in the fun-to-drive factor(wouldn't want to claim any power ).

TR and WRX are the same size...I think the tip might be different though? Better idea seems like STi muffler and custom 2.25" midpipe IMHO.
