Unhappy Spotted: Abandoned Red SVX

So I decided to stop by The Reo Diner in Woodbridge (NJ) and since the parking lot was full I decided to park across the street in the backup parking lot. I spotted a Subbie and decided to park next to it. As I pull into the spot I realized that the car was abandoned! The plates were removed, the inspection sticker (05) was falling off, and the front tires flat. If anyone was looking for a rare find for a project car I may have found you one. Looks like she'll need a little love to get back on the road, but bodywise she looks sound. I'd take her in, but I don't have the budget for a project car nor a place I can store it while it was being worked on. And of course I bring you pictures!

Someone hurry up and save her before someone notices and has her towed!

Too bad, but you'd kind of need the title-
Also I don't see an AWD badge so it's probably FWD.

If a car is abandoned you can file for a salvage title at the DMV to claim it and if I remember correctly all SVX's are AWD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_SVX

Not likely. I checked it out a bit more and spotted the insurance card. Its been sitting there for 4 years and 2 - 3 years ago there was a change in ownership of the diner. Its in their aux parking lot across the street so the new owners probably never noticed it. But if someone is interested in getting the car I'll gladly ask the owner since I'm in good graces with the owner's son.

Honestly I think the car is cool looking and reminds me a bit of the DMC-12 Delorian which was my favorite car growing up as a kid. This seems to be the one thing I never understood about the community, people bitch about the newer cars not being ugly enough to stand out and people bitch about this car being ugly meanwhile there's hundreds driving around in those fugly @$$ bug-eyes. ;P

From what I gather this is what happens: call the police and tell them there is an abandoned vehicle and you wish to claim it. Contact the DMV with the same story, if they can't locate the owner in a certain time frame the car is yours. Since the car has been sitting for 4 years I doubt they'll find him and if they do I'm pretty sure you can get it from the guy for nothing for him to avoid being fined.

"Subaru began to realize that the selling price of the SVX was giving some buyers "sticker shock", so in an attempt to attract more buyers, a Front Wheel Drive FWD version was offered on the SVX during the 1994-1995 model year. In 1994, FWD was offered on both the L model (X33 in the VIN) and on the LS model (X34 in the VIN). In 1995, only the L model was offered in FWD (X33 in the 5th, 6th and 7th digits of the VIN). Unfortunately, AWD is a core technology that buyers identify with Subaru, and offering the SVX with FWD didn't help yearly sales figures."

Well either way its not like I can't check the vin for whoever is interested, however, if my guess is right the tranny is dead anyway and thats why it was abandoned. Luckly any WRX and STI tranny will bolt up to it so if its FWD it can be converted to AWD if you have enough money and patience.

Honestly I think they look pretty good. The windows creep me out a bit but rear wiper ftw. Hope it finds a good home.

The transaxles were notorious for dropping dead in these. To abandon them is simply silly; they're going for a good rate these days, even without the drivetrain; All We'll Drive does restoration on these machines in an effort to keep them on the road and away from the parts section of eBay. I'd give them a shout!

That's the easiest part.

15 minutes at any Subaru dealer + 1 day if they have to special order the key blank.

Doesn't look like it but from looking at the information on a bunch of SVX websites I've come to the conclusion this is a 1994 LS-I. I know its a 1994 from the reg/insurance card I saw inside the car and its got the leather interior (which is in surprisingly good shape) which only came in the LS-I of that year. This also means its AWD for those who were worried it might be FWD.

The other day I found an abandoned car next to where I work. The car is in a parking lot of a department store that went out of business. I called Trenton to see if I could possibly claim ownership of the vehicle. The lady just asked one question: "Is the car on your property?" I said, "well no but..." At which point I was interrupted and she said, "there is no way you can claim the car."
I was very disappointed!
Did anybody call Trenton or Police about this SVX?
I guess I'm just wondering what kind of answers you guys are getting?

Did a quick google, found this:

How to obtain a special title on an abandoned vehicle:
If you want to claim ownership and title an abandoned vehicle, you must request an application packet from the Special Title Section at an MVC Agency. You must state whether the vehicle was found on public or private property.

beige interior in a 94... More than likely an AWD if the seats were all leather too... I may look into it, any info on the owner yet??
