Perrin Short Shift Adapter review
So I broke down and ordered it already, and took about 20 minutes to install.
It is by far the best aftermarket upgrade I have done so far. Easy install, and instantly takes up most of the slack in the shift lever. Shifts feel much more solid, and, of course, shorter throws. I set it at 55mm right in the middle of the recommended range (I think they recommend installing the adapter between 48-62mm). To be safe I bent up the plate to prevent the linkage from hitting, which will come in handy because now that I know what is involved to adjust it I will probably go back in when it is warmer and set it closer to the shortest throw. Bushings will have to wait for warmer weather as well.

oh in that case the perrin short shift adapter rocks hard, if you have a 5 speed buy one post haste, it is easy to install and make the transmission feel so much better.

After driving to work with the shortened throw and stiffer shift lever I can't figure out why Subaru doesn't just install a lever with the pivot point higher to begin with. It really improves the feel of the shift lever a lot, and really would not cost anything additional because they just need to throw the different lever on instead of the stock one they use now (same amount of material, just redesign with a higher pivot point).
Do any drivers actually prefer the more wishy-washy lever feel that the car currently ships with? Last edited by Zeeper; 02-17-2013 at 12:07 PM. |

I wouldn't buy from Crux. I ordered a $2.50 sticker that cost $2.50 to ship. They somehow got my order wrong, and won't send the correct one until I send the other back. It's just based on principal that I shouldn't be paying to return the wrong item. I'm sure it wasn't an intentional error but at this point I wouldn't buy anything else from them, but this was just my experience. |

What will the stiffer bushings offer as an improvement? I only say that because it feels good as is, no longer wishy-washy, the throw length is good, and overall I am pretty damn impressed that the little adapter can change the character of the transmission so dramatically.
I may do the bushings, if they are not a PITA, but then again, I might not bother. I recall someone on the forum discussing installing then removing the bushings, because he felt they would stiffen it up too much and increase the wear on the transmission (instead of letting the gear lever have a little play in it). |

Yeah I really enjoy the clunkyness of the shifter after the bushings. Stock is nice and easy and smooth but the clunk makes it feel much more sturdy. With the lower shift knob I removed the rubber boot because it made the leather sit funky but it is much louder without. May reinstall it if im not feeling too lazy

What color is your overlay? Is it carbon fiber paired with silver or is it spark silver? I quite like the combination you got going there.

So today I received my Cobb Adjustable short shifter and Kartboy front and rear shifter bushings...I went ahead and installed the short shifter myself which took about 2 hours because I was playing around to find the perfect setup. It was an easy install and the difference is tremendous. I took the Impreza for a spin and it really felt great. Shifts were crisp and short...People here were right when they say it should be the first upgrade you do. Bushings to come soon.
