If it was the A45AMG instead of the CLA45AMG it would be exactly what I want (barring the wishful dreams of a RS4 Avant).

That remains to be seen, you can't make a statement like that for a brand new car. It may turn out to be the case, but that still seems like really high output for a factory power plant especially from a manufacturer not known for bulletproof products.

What exactly remains to be seen, the worthiness of this (CLA45 AMG) or the desire for a similar platform from Subaru enthusiasts?

If you're looking for validation on the latter arguement, it's not hard to find.

The output may be high, but it's not like they didn't build the motor accordingly; I didn't see "cast" anything with regards to the bottom end.

I couldn't disagree more. Keep your droopy-butt mini sedans in Germany.. we need more hatches here.

No hate.. but for $47k I'm sure as hell not buying a 4 cylinder turbocharged car. This is America.. I'll take something with some displacement and throttle response.

I get that MBs are relatively cheap and Subarus are relatively expensive in Germany.. not so in the US.

This thing costs about $10-15k more than the STI in the US.

We can buy a BOSS 302 for about $8k less than the CLA45 and have Recaros, 444hp (with terrific throttle response) and adjustable shocks.

All good, the new Camero Z/28 looks pretty promising! I'm actually pretty stoked on it, never looked at an American car before though.

For many of us, if we didn't need AWD we wouldn't bother with Subaru. For me, this car with a hand-built AMG engine (4 cyl or not) and AWD is enticing.. and it seems like fuel economy could be a bonus. I don't refute your point, but we all cross shop different.

Also, comparing a mustang to a merc is really quite silly. Then again, comparing a merc to an STI is silly as well. My 2011 STI was seemingly built by either new, blind, or mentally challenged technicians.

It seems like this car should be a coupe, like a baby CL, and RWD only.

That is impressive power. Interior looks good. But I am not sold on the current M-B sedan line up.

Well that's good because I bet you won't be able to buy one for $47k. You know how it works with German karz... shipping, paint, door handles, and a few other items and you will be way north of $47k.

Still it will be fun seeing how this new hatchling pans out in the real world.

That it's well built and reliable. The M 133 DE 20 AL was all new last spring, and M-B isn't exactly the pinnacle of bullet proof automobiles the last 15 years. The first part of your statement was obvious and isn't limited just to Subaru enthusiasts.

the CLA45 has Recaros...

and AWD, similar performance, much nicer interior+exterior.

but sure, if you're one of those Americans who only looks at the numbers, and would buy a track car like a Boss 302 and use it as a daily, then have fun!

AWD? It's no better than Haldex. It's FWD-based with a PTU.. did you read the OP?

Nicer interior? They're both plastic tubs. Nicer exterior? That's purely subjective.. but I think M-B is leading the way in hideous cars, so no thanks.

Whatever argument you were trying to make was just rendered null and void. I've actually spent some time behind the wheel of a 302 and I've owned and driven a fair share of AWD turbocharged cars. I'll take the 302 any day of the week (that doesn't involve freezing rain the forecast).

Reliability is subjective, I base it on my experience and you either experience or "reviews".

Of course the first part was obvious, it was intended to be as such; correct, but I was speaking in relation to the Subaru community - not just enthusiasts in general.

We can parse language all day long; regardless of what anyone has to say, I'm interested in this car.

Don't get me wrong I love Mercedes, there's just somthing wrong with the new line up, I think it's the rear bumper the front grill and the dodge charger doors.

I really like the idea of the car. Outside of the engines numbers the interior is probably the most impressive portion of the vehicle, the exterior leaves a little to be desired...and that exhaust in the videos doesn't sound all that great to me.
