Heavy, heavy rain just prior to evening rush hour led to some nasty street flooding, and I went through a flooded section that I thought I knew well enough, and turns out I didn't. I'm kicking myself, because it was stupid to even try.
But, I have an EZ30D that I need to reassemble and get into the car, so this will just force me to get my ass in gear on that job. |

After the posts above I manhandled the Legacy into the garage, pulled the spark plugs, and confirmed that something in the engine is broken - I can only roll the crank over a turn before it locks up. Then I had to get back to work on my CTS-V, so I rolled the Legacy back out of the garage and put the V in to fiddle with the headers.
This weekend I finished working on the CTS-V, got it out of the garage, then manhandled the powerless Subaru into the garage yet again. (Using my World's Strongest Man skills I hooked a tow strap to the rear tow eye and pulled the car backwards into the garage. ) - Drained the oil and coolant. - Removed the intake manifold and radiator. - Set the PS pump off to the side. I can see the backs of all the intake valves, so none of them has broken off. I took off the left and right timing chain covers and rolled the engine over by hand, but couldn't get the crank into a position to see if the timing belt had jumped teeth. Tomorrow after work I'll see about removing the header. I also need to try to find someone that does mobile A/C refrigerant recovery - I want to get the system evacuated and obviously I can't drive the car anywhere to do that. |

Got my JDM power mode switch wired in and installed. Just need to get a working bulb for it. The switch is out of 3rd gen so I had to make it fit somewhere in my 2nd gen. Also replaced the battery 2 weeks ago.

Wednesday I got the OBX header off (some seriously rusty fasteners to fight with, but didn't have to resort to cutting anything), removed all the header studs from the heads to transfer over to the EZ30, removed the A/C compressor, and drained and removed the PS pump.
I have some work to accomplish on the CTS-V (again), and I need to do some garage rearranging to make some space, but hopefully this weekend I can have the EJ25D out of the car. |

Drove to Miramar Motor Sports, never again!
Stay far away from these guy's. A friend of mine found a Legacy Gt Wagon listed in the autotrader, it was over priced but the ad said it was "babied" and only 60k mileage on it. So we went to look at it, first off the initial sales person a young guy started off respectful enough, but said "We are not flexible on price, and no you cannot take it for a test drive, until you agree on price." We we should have walked away then. After looking over the car, the leather was rock hard from sun damage the bumpers and head light had there fair share of the same. I said to he gentleman this car was misrepresented. But with the low mileage we are still interested in the car. After further review of the car they figured we were serious buyers and agreed to a test drive under one condition (should have walked away again) keep the car under 4k rpm. Easy enough for me so I did my test first, the car felt solid. Then it was my friend turn, and never owning a Subaru and unfamiliar with the clutch, he burnt the clutch a bit on take off. But the second time had it all figured out. Got back to the dealer and we discussed the car, a second sale person takes over, and gets irate about the smell of Burt clutch, my buddy apologized, it was a simple mistake. Then the guy says you agreed on the price, which was a lie, so we said enough of this and walked off. As we walked off, the second salesman yelled "You fat ****s, you fat ****s!" Really? Ok we're never going back there, then he drives up to where we were parked and yelled out the window, "You stupid fat ****s!" Totally un professional and uncalled for.

Not today, but last weekend I replaced the bad knock sensor and installed a WRX wagon take off suspension. A bit lower and a lot less "floaty" now. Next "project" is to find AW mats and a cargo liner. In the mean time I have a massive AT cooler to install in the wifes Forester
Edit: Would love to add GT skirts / bumpers / lips / spats at some point too. But before that I will be installing a Recaro in the back seat |

What is "[H]onda [C]ivic rattle canned"? Is that different from "Impreza rattle canned" or "Legacy rattle canned", both of which I've seen plenty of on this forum?

Last night I got the dead 4-cyl out of the car. I had already pulled basically everything off of it - intake manifold, accessories, exhaust header - so it was just a matter of separating it from the transmission and yanking it out. The nuts on the two lower studs holding the trans to the engine were harder to get to than I remembered (particularly the driver side), but with some cursing I fought through that. And of course one of the alignment dowels (passenger side) hung up, so I had to rock and jiggle and pry for probably 20 or 30min before the engine finally came free.
My engine collection is growing. Sunday I spent some time with the drill and the nylon "wire wheel" cleaning up the intake manifold. It was pretty filthy, but looks OK now. I'm still debating what I want to do with it. I think painting it burnt copper like the valve covers and timing cover would be too much, so I had been thinking of going black or wrinkle black. (I've been planning to test out both the EZ30D manifold and the EZ30R manifold, which is black plastic, so if I paint the 30D manifold they would have the same look going.) I got the accessory brackets (PS and A/C) powdercoated a silver/aluminum color, but it occurs to me now that they're going to look out of place because the block and heads aren't particularly clean and shiny. Hmmm... Might scuff up the powdercoat and hit them with the flat black I've used on a few other bits. |
