excuse the dirtiness
here is a reference picture. for those who are doing this, be patient, cut with a little space and then trim. you don't want to cut exactly to your template and trim in. GL

It took me a second, but I knew I had seen them before. Like I said, cheap, unique, and effective.

Honestly Subaru should steal this idea and offer them, I know its super easy DIY, but a perfectly molded Subaru cup holder insert would be tits.

I'm definitely gunna order some more of the coasters and make some.

I agree, it would be "tits" for a perfect molded one. They would probably sell more regular All Weather mats too!... That was the inspiration behind the mod, to match it with the floor mats, but I end up not wanting to shell out the extra money for the mats so I just did the Home Depot mat mod instead.

Subaru can pay me a new STi for the idea

The scoop actually makes a difference of 10-15° in the engine bay. And not everyone has cash to throw around for a different scoop insert or whole entire hood

Because putting a FMIC setup is for people with no cash to throw around

Ask Subaru why they sell a jdm rear foglight for the GR Sedan, maybe its for your CDI or maybe its actually functional. They didnt make one for the 5dr so I decided to do it myself.

the real question is why not a rear fog-light.....

Every car in Europe has to have a rear fog light, strange why not in the US...

and I don't know why it is called JDM rear fog-light, because all the Japanese cars I imported into UK didn't have rear fog lights and needed one fitted before I could make them road legal..... Surely it should be called a EDM rear fog light

forgot to say... nice job btw, looks stock.

I don't know if that is OEM, that is what we used to do in the UK, to get rear fogs on JDM imported cars. It was either that or bolt one on, which is ugly.

Lots of european cars (and racecars) have them. Saftey in fog, snow, and heavy rain.

EDM STi (don't mind the stickers):

Notice the taillight.

As for having them here in the U.S., the question is IF you need them:
You can't turn on your fogs by themselves unless you've modded the relay/harness, so IF you have your fogs on, your headlights will be on, and your taillights will be on anyways. Is a dinky little light in the rear going to make a difference while the tails are on for USDM STi/WRXs? I doubt it.
So if it's not used for function, then it's for aesthetics, hence the "CDI factor". In the U.S. for someone without modded fogs at least.

Cosworth CS400's also had them.

Isn't that based on an EDM STi? Interesting how the right hand drive EDM cars have the fog on the right side, and the left hand drive EDM cars have the fog on the left.

Cosworth is a British performance company, so yes, it is built from a 2011 EDM STI.

FWIW, EDM WRX/STi's have independent fogs.

If it's a proper rear fog light, then it's brighter than the taillights. Haven't you ever seen a European car with it's rear fog light(s) on? Jag, M-B, Audi, etc all have them. They're as bright as the brake lights, and thus stand out a heckuva lot better than a taillight in the fog or spray that gets kicked up from the roadway.

Do you need them? Of course not. Is it a simple, smart safety modification? I think so.

Pat, I've seen the JDM fog light on the GR sedans, and in my opinion they are no where as bright as a proper rear fog. Please note that my previous post only pertains to the USDM WRX/STi's, and I agree with you on the MB's (only other rear fog I've seen in person). In that regard, I still stand by my original stance on rear fogs for USDM WRX/STi's.

Also, in a light snow situation, the taillights are still visible at the corners, while the lower fog area would be completely covered:

Once again, just my uneducated opinion on the matter (though not 100% unfounded), though I do appreciate your inputs

proper fog lights are really bright, and are needed for times when visability is low, the standard rear lights are quite dim until the brake pedal is applied, so there is a risk that you may not see the car in front until they are braking and it may be too late. The high visiabilty rear fog gives drivers a much earlier indication of car in from of them.

not matter what people's opinion, if they have the correct bulb, and are used in the correct manor, then they are a valuable piece of safety equipment... otherwise they are for show.

What would be your opinion on this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Red-LED-Rect.../140899894960?
versus the OEM rear tails?

Hope you don't take my posts as offensive in any way. Aesthetically I think they're fantastic, though functionally I still have my doubts.

Edit:
Another point of interest is whether they're wired to the fogs or the taillights, because if they're proper rear fogs (i.e. bright as heck), then having them on all the time is a bit...improper?
