Is there a write up on the EDM rear fog mod? If not, someone should get on that!

normally these are wired on separate switch, that can only be turned on when the headlights are on (like the front fog's), but don't come on automatically. but if it custom, you can wire it up however you want.

In the UK it is motoring violation to use your fogs (front and back) unless it is foggy, it is a fine-able offence.

This is traditional, the fog light would be on the "passing side" so coming up on car the bright fog light lets you know to "pass on the left" in a LHD country and vice versa for RHD so it is mounted on the opposite side. Many cars now have rear fog lights on both sides so I think that fine detail has been lost.

You bring up a great point, seems like Subaru just put the rear fog in there to meet the local requirements without making it a truly great functional piece.

I always wanted the rear fog, but really not too many consistently foggy places in the US, I've been through blizzards most people just turn on their flashers when it gets bad, americans don't know what to make of a rear fog anyways because it is not required equipment here.

Well in America, a single headlight is usually associated with either a burnt out headlight, or a motorcycle. Something that would panic a lot of drivers initially.

driving with your hazards on is almost as effective realistically. Some of the newer SMD LEDs are insanely bright and work very well as four-way indicators in bad weather.

Yeah but we're not talking about a headlight but rather a red rear foglight. I wired mine up on my wagon's drivers side and it works great in the morning fog. We get a lot of rain down here(Miami) and when it comes down really heavy many people use their hazards as well. I hate that personally, it leads you to believe that vehicle has stopped. Here's what mine looks like

I wasn't referring to the headlights. I'm referring to the person driving behind you, what they'll interpret your rear fog light as in North America.

You don't drive with only your rear fog light on though.

I still like the rear foglights even thought 'mericans don't understand them. Used to love the stupid bright ones on the parents Audis always great to let someone know they have their brights on behind you.

Before I sold my 09 WRX hatch, I really wanted the EDM light, but I settled for the just getting a red bulb for the left side. Never did install it but I figure it would have worked pretty well, the reflector design was probably similar or the same. The EDM fog is pretty hard to track down, though as per usual everything foreign is "cool" the people with the stock EDM fog would love to have the USDM reverse light so if you can find someone to trade with it is a good deal.

I didn't like the idea of halving the reverse light power though I need a good view when reversing down my long dark driveway.

It has a lot to do with what kind of bulb you use for your reverse light. I went with a white multi smd led that I got from superbright. That one light is more than bright enough, not to mention the rear fog in and of itself provides plenty of light.

First time I polished it I didn't clear so it rusted a little. Polished, painted the body with engine paint, cleared, and cooked with a heat gun.

Lol yeah the counter top is bland looking and the apples were right there so the light bulb went off. I think it shows good contrast.

I essentially did the same thing with my WRX (that's gone now), but VLEDs bulbs instead. It was great when backing in to places, like a couple flood lights on the back end. Going to have to do the same thing on my STi now, seeing as, I can't see a damn thing behind me and my brake lights illuminate more.
