I will try to think of some.
The sad reality is that it was so common, it became the norm, and stories that would blow a normal person's mind really didn't stick as anything special.

Its funny, every so often someone posts a thread asking about becoming a mechanic. It never fails, every time, everyone who is, or was a tech, comes in and says the same thing. Run. Don't walk, RUN. |

And that story about the customer bitching me out because their new car had the TPMS light come on, isn't about ONE customer.
It was a nonstop flow of morons. We kept a 7 gallon portable tank and a couple tire pressure gauges up at the service counter so we could just go check it and send the customer on their way. Every once in a while you would get some douche who despite you laying it out to them in friendly words, explained in a way even a 3rd grader would understand, still demanded that we have a tech look it over since OBVIOUSLY there was something wrong. Not a problem. Car gets pulled around back and parked. The more of a hurry the customer seemed to be in, the longer we let it sit. If they were genuinely concerned, and just wanted the best for their car, we would pull it in, put it up on a lift and give the tires a good once over just to make sure there weren't any nails or anything (even though we knew there weren't). But if they were an ass about it, we were as well. (but we smiled the whole time and held their balls to make them feel special) |

I feel your pain Dave. I too have been a tech and a service advisor. Might as well be a garbage man- less hours, less stupid people to deal with...

Not a tech story but still pretty dumb.
A coworker some how hit something that put a hole in his oil pan. He made it back to work with about half his oil. The rest drained in the parking lot. He calls a tow truck. I was talking with him about it while the tow guy was doing his thing. He gets lined up then asked if he can barrow the keys to drive it on. My coworker hand him the keys and says sure why not. I stopped him and let Jim know trying to drive a can with no oil was a vary bad idea. The truck driver looked confused like how was he ever going to get the car on the flat bed. I calmly asked him if he had a wench. He exclaims, o ya I could just wench it up! Some people just can't use they're brains. Glad I was there. That driver could have made just a new oil pan turn into a new engine. |

Never worked at an auto shop or service center, but from doing a lot of my own work on my cars, i understand where everyone is coming from. I find it easiest to to work with people when you (the customer or the mechanic) is civil and humble.

This is what happens when kids don't get ritalin . I remember two techs at my old shop that used to race doing repairs. It was good sport.

I worked at a Dodge dealership when the ram srt-10 came out. We got one in on the trailer with 8 miles on it. By the time it made it into the showroom, it had almost 500 miles on it. Every tech and every salesman had a go at it.

Okay, I kinda figured that's what you meant but I've never heard it referred to as 3 figures. I've always heard it referred to as 6 figures.
