ohhh, I see. I think the point is the gasket, that is sealing nothing.

Yes. They come with a gasket for some applications. This, and a majority others, don't need the gasket as they screw to a pipe fitting holding them up.

See I have the exact opposite experiences as you guys. You deal with stupid customers, I deal with stupid mechanics. I'll just go down the list:

-when I got my car, the small dealership replaced the tranny and put too thin of a gear oil in. Blackstone tested and everything, now half my gears grind constantly

-timing belt job, months ago. During my inspection a few weeks ago they found a bolt finger loose on the timing cover.

-had my valve cover gaskets replaced because of internal leaking. Now they both leak externally, but "it's not the valve covers" -_-

-had my rear wheel bearings replaced by a local shop. I get to work the next day with smoke pouring out of my rear drums, the shoes were adjusted too far out. Also, they left my drivers side lateral link loose (I had to tighten), and 3 bolts on the rear differential loose, because they put in new axles too.

Thats not even all of them.

It's very frustrating. It's always awkward going back to tell them the mistakes. I honestly get paranoid when having people work on my car now. I try to do as much DIY as I can, but I just don't always have the right tools.

end rant/

You need to find a better shop. People make mistakes, and a good shop will own up to those and fix them as part of their warranty

+1 I have run into some bad shops too (the Subaru dealer near me, and unfortunately the only one within 250 miles).

Use peer online reviews to help pick a good one. That's all I can really recommend. Also the better shops will have higher prices usually and a better warranty.

That's why I do most thinks myself. If I can't do it I'll pay a little more to have Cobb do it.

That's why when my transmission finally does go, I'm driving almost 2 hours for AndrewTech to fix it.

If we screw something up here we have to pay to fix it. One guy here didn't check the lug nuts on a car and let it roll out the shop. So he's out 2000.00 because if came off the car and destroyed the quarter panel. So I understand the dumb mechanic thing.

You need to find a shop that will stand behind their repairs and tear into them if they are blaming something else.
Usually I'm nice to them until I hear a little bit of BS come out of their mouth then it's on.
I mostly DIY everything on the car because I know it's done right.
Some things I take it to the shop. (wheel bearings) just to get it done, but I'm that f-ing guy that likes to stand there and watch and look over the car meticulously before I leave.

Stop being a kitty cat about life and ****ing learn something and do it your self then you won't run into stuff like that cause almost every shop tech will leave something off and if he says he never has hes a liar or he don't work on enough cars so rant your ass a chiltons manual and get busy then you can be mad at your self for sucking at life. Oh yeah don't have right tools? Buy them ****s is cheap as he'll if you don't go buying snap on or matco

I'll just leave this here:

Customer comes in complaining of a lack of power. Tech takes it for a test drive around the block and sure enough it can barely get out of it's own way. Brings it in and (thankfully) starts with the basics: The air filter...

Guess this is the new K&N Korn filtration system

Tools cheap? Lol um right maybe if you work on one brand of car only. Gtfo if your gonna **** talk about mechanics and generally bad mouth in this thread towards someone you do not know. Go back to OT

Half of the major pain in the ass jobs are when a diy got in too deep and now half the car is torn apart.

Are their ****ty shops? Yes that's why there is Internet peer review sites.

Lol.
I replaced my front ball joints, outer tie rods, and wheel bearings with one other friend, successfully.
I do as much a I can myself, but there are many specialty tools that I don't have, or have access to. Sure I could buy them, but why buy a $50-$100 tool just to use it once?

I could make a pretty big list of the things I've done myself so far, and I've only owned my car 1 year. Learn something? I'm here on NABISCO everyday, reading different things trying to learn about my car. Hell, most people my age (I'm 18.) don't even change their own oil, let alone all the other stuff I've done and research about.

Its getting cold, and mice are looking for places to keep food.

Either that or some rather odd pranksters.

I found an airbox full of dog food once. I walked into the waiting room and told the customer that they need to stop feeding their dog outside. They looked at me like I was some kind of psycho stalker.

It was an older caravan with the sideways air filter- poured all over the ground when I opened it. There was kibble all up under the hood 'blanket' too. By the time I emptied every thing out, there must have been 15lbs of food all over my bay.

Found this little gem when I was replacing the BOV that the previous owner put in, now got my stock BPV in place!

What you are seeing is 2 gaskets, yep.... he was smart enough not to remove the gasket and just figured it would work. Not to mention that the BOV wasn't even tuned correctly, I was leaking boost from the gasket and the BOV didn't hold boost. Yet another reason to no install BOV's unless you know what you're doing.
