Subaru dealer selling Cobb AP
So I went in for an oil change at the dealer where I bought my 2012 WRX. I noticed a display case in the service department that had some accessories for the WRX/STI. One of the accessories was a Cobb AP for $595, I asked the service guy about using the AP and my warranty. He said I could go stage 1 and they would honor the warranty but as soon as I mod the engine/exhaust ie DP, stage 2, the warranty goes bye bye...He said they would even do the flash for me if I bought the AP. I thought it was funny that a Subaru dealer was selling the Cobb AP but I guess you can run some maps and it will not affect your warranty, atleast at my dealer......what`s your thoughts about going to a stage 1 with the AP, I want to keep my warranty......

Do it. The stock tune is poo and stage 1 is nice for a quick bump in power. Wish my dealership was mod friendly

The dealer is selling the AP for the same price as Cobb, I would buy the AP from the dealer and yes, I would get them to put it in writing first.....by the way, it`s Dyer Subaru in Vero Beach if anyone cares....

That is if indeed you are not an unknowledgeable kid....they can smell the "stupid kid" smell from a mile away, so watch it. But yes, get it in writing. However, that does not mean much when defining the term "abuse".....In that case a factory tune will get warranty work denied as well. |

I would think that a receipt from an authorized Subaru dealer showing the sale of an AP would be sufficient for documentation.

Oh - and if you are interested, this dealer is selling much more than that and giving you 25% off some of the parts:

Hello,
To be honest, You need to get it in writing prior to buying it/installing it. Call a few dealerships other then your dealership in your town and say "hey, if I buy this cobb AP and do a stage 1 flash, will it effect my warranty?" see what they say.. Call a few of them. |

I'd say go for it, if something happens just flash it back to stock... Don't buy it from the dealer tho, the less they know the better. My friend had a cobalt ss that we made stage 3 and sprayed nitrous, needless to say it blew the oil rings 2 times, just threw the motor back to stock and the dealer was non the wiser...

Those options were added at the dealer before it hit the lot...If you go and drive the new WRX, you will feel like your in a STI, it`s quite a bit faster than the 07 was by about 25 hp......

I`m thinking the same thing, no dealer is going to put themselves in a position like that....But I swear he did say they would honor the warranty with a stage 1 w/the Cobb AP that he was selling, getting him to put it in writing is another thing...

You can tell people don't bother searching, when they think their dealer has any say with Subarus warranty process.

Take a read through here OP http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...240471&page=92 A few people have said there dealer would cover ****, but when it's time to nut up, the deal has to go through Subaru of America (SOA) to be reimbursed for warranty work. Guess who of the two DOESN'T honor a warranty with a stage 1 tune. The only one that matters. Just a warning. |

My dealership sells a slew of performance upgrades, but i would be hesitant to think that the subaru warranty would be honored even if they install the part themselves. if you had the warranty agreement from the dealership in writing wouldnt that be some sort of contract and the dealership would have to eat some of the costs?
