I would but the terms of the extended Warranty is only Authorised Subaru dealers can perform the Servicing.
Interestingly I called the Service Manager and requested he advise if this is considered overfull, he disappeared for a bit then informed it is Normal for them to overfill these cars because it is Normal for them to use oil between services, my concern is so far ours doesn't use much and I'd like it to stay that way.

Do they charge you for the KY Jelly before they ask you to drop your trousers and bend over? Sorry for the rant, but this kind of crap pisses me off. Just strikes me as a conflict of interest, forcing you to use their service in order to satisfy the terms of the warranty. |

The extended warranty was " Free ", obviously the locked in servicing requirement is a way to get their money back, still the extended contract is from Subaru the company not the Dealer otherwise I wouldn't worry about it also it's my wifes car and she wants it done by the dealer.

However....if you have a maintenance contract thru Subaru, they have to be performed at the dealer in order to get them for free. Do you have to do them at the dealer? No, but you will pay for them if you go elsewhere. |

Do you know if it's Subarus recommendation to now normally fill past the Imprezas full mark by 3/5 to 4/5 " as measured after 3 minutes ? |

I've always heard that overfilling is bad for an engine because it can cause oil foaming. I don't know how much overfilling would be required to cause foaming in a Subaru boxer engine. Regardless, I can't recommend overfilling.

The first oil change they overfilled it by the same amount and the motor would smell like burnt oil whenever I went up a steep mountain range, think the excess oil must have been burnt through the air box. Had them empty it back to " F " then and the smell went away. Last change I firmly stipulated they don't overfill and their wasn't a problem, so will have them remove some. |

My 2012 was burning about two and a half litres for each 7,000 km (4,000 miles) or so. I was somewhat worried as this was my first car ever to burn oil. Upon my first oil change I mentioned it to the dealer but he said that during the break-in, it is not uncommon to see this.
Upon my second oil change, I pointed out to the dealer that the problem was still there. They noticed that an oil vapor recirculation valve was stuck open (not the exact scientific term but this is how they explained it) and it was probably the culprit. They replaced the valve about 7,000 km ago and it does burn oil any longer. I now have 15,000 km on the car and couldn't be happier with my Subaru. I assume you meant, "They replaced the valve about 7,000 km ago and it does not burn oil any longer."

None of the techs at my dealership mentioned anything about that valve possibly being the culpit for my oil consumption problem, but I assume that they checked it. |

My car has 10,000 miles on it. Low oil level lit up on the 4,000mile mark and 3,000miles after my first oil change. It doesnt bother me that the engine eats up oil actually.
There was finally a possible solution stated in this thread how we can prevent the engine from eating up oil Just now, my oil level pressure warning light illuminated. But faintly illuminated mot like when you switch your keys to ugnition when starting the engine. The warning light illuminates when im cruising around 60mph. It doesnt illuminate on stop and go traffic. Has anybody found a solution for the oil pressure warning light? Im going to bring my car to the dealer tomorrow. This thread is so long and i dont have the time to backreaf all the 100+ pages. Thanks! |

Just to clarify, the yellow indicator warns you that the oil level is low. That happened to me twice which i dont really mind.
What happened to me awhile ago is the red oil pressure warning light. Has anybody solved this? Knowing that this is a world wide problem makes me at ease. At least i know im not the only one and no one i think had their engine broke down because of this issue. Should we just not mind the low oil pressure warning light? Take out the bulb maybe? Hahahahaha |

Only a few ON HERE habe had the red oil pressure light, and iirc they were all electrical problems. No widespread oil pressure losses have been reported.

As for the red oil light, yes mine was dimly illuminated. The dealer had to solder a wire on because they said it was too short from the factory. I can't remember which dealer now. Some dealerships know how to fix it and some don't. Another problem Subaru is aware of and has failed to address. SOA is worthless. Don't miss that POS Subaru one bit. |

I also relayed my concern of my impreza burning oil. This shouldn't happen based on the reply of the service manager. Next time my oil level light illuminates, ill be bringing the unit to the dealer and they will do a full check up on my oil consumption. I didnt get to bring my car and show them the oil level light since i was out of town and decided to put oil in just to get home. Our imprezas here in the Philippines are made in Japan and has european specs. My impreza has a 6speed MT. So far there are no other reported oil eating imprezas since most of the people here bought the CVT version. I think only the MT variant has this issue. Here it is not recommended to use the 0w-20 grade oil due to the hot weather. Here we use 10w-30 i think. The dealer here are easy to work with. Ill give you updates on my oil eating impreza as soon as i have time to leave it in the dealer for inspection and repair. |
