STI availability
I know that the STI is supposed to be a limited run model and rumors have it that we'll see only a few thousand a year. Based on this many seem to be under the impression that if you don't have your name on a list now you won't get an STI. Last week I went to my two local Subaru dealers to see about putting my name on a list and fully expecting to be behind several people. Much to my supprise I'm first in line at one dealer and second in line at the other. Are others holding off on lists/deposits until after the announcement? With the 350z, EVO, and R32 also available is the 30K performance car market getting saturated? Will we see STIs just sitting on lots?

I think availability may be a function of the market/area of the US which you're in.
I'd guess that there isn't nearly the interest in Subaru's in your area as there is in others. I bet you could score some points with your dealer if you posted where they are & perhaps got them a few more sales. reports are that some dealers won't get any cars if they don't have enough volume of WRX'es in their past sales, so they might not get any cars at all. I recall that Mini's were not very hard to get ahold of in the NC/SC area shortly after launch as well, which was interesting. Mini dealers were all allocated the same number of cars tho, so in smaller markets they would have had more supply. Ben #1 on list, will likely wait to get the car in the fall... |

your dealers waiting list and previous wrx sales
My dealer has 2 names on the list. He sold ~ 60 wrx's. 10% owrx sales =6 sti's. He will sell them all. I told him, make sure mine's loaded

I just see SOA and Subaru making a big mistake if they keep production so low.

STi availability I'm told will be 300 per month in the US.

I don't know WRX sales figures for either dealer but maybe I should ask. I'm sure Charlotte isn't the biggest volume area for WRXs but it is a pretty good sized city and there are only two dealers here. It seems that one of those dealers had to sell several WRXs 'cause there's a lot on the roads around here.
Another thing on dealer allocation. Much talk has been eluded to the idea that not all dealers will get an STI. I would think that any dealer with a sold order will get one to fill that order (sooner or later) but only select dealers will get one or more just for inventory. I find it hard to believe that Subaru would tell certain dealers that they're not allowed to order STIs for customers. |
