after the rubi is paid off i could buy a sporty / sports car, or buy another jeep for me (2 door jk and stretch that bitch) and let the wife have the 4 door rubi. im leaning heavily towards a two wrangler household.

Just out of curiosity I looked on online and for 35x12.50x15s the price difference between the MTR Kevlars and the TrXus MTs is only $180 at Quadratec and $172 at 4WD Hardware for a set of 4 tires. I would imagine that there would be a much larger price difference if procured locally though.

I was quoting 5 tires using various sources, but still, that's mucho when the MTRs have such a great rep.

Sure. Imprezas are in the $40s, too, for people who want leather, nav, bun warmers, locking diffs and stuff.

I paid $46k for mine. No complaints, except that for that $$$ it should come with a 5.7L (since you can get the V8 for much less in other Chrysler products).

n00b asking:

How is the interior noise with the hardtops? I'm thinking about selling my gto and picking up a fun truck/suv. (either the wrangler or fj cruiser)

not too bad. we did a road trip to Watkins Glen in June and we had no issues carrying on a conversation the entire way. There are a few options for inserts for the hard top that are meant to help with heat transfer (a problem on dark colors) but have the side benefit of lowering road noise.

there was more tire noise and wind noise from the boxy shape than the hard top. The soft top is known to howl a bit at speed.

I miss my 4x4's. I had a 3" lifted Rodeo on 32"s that was a tank until it died (Stupid Isuzu Abs brakes,) a 4" lifted and dual locked on 37's 99' K1500 Suburban with 350hp that would go anywhere it fit, and a 2" lifted 2003 Yukon XL on 33"s that did pretty well. Now I have access to a 2001 Yukon XL on 32"s that gets stuck a lot but is ok for mild stuff and an fussy as hell 76' Scout with a 4" lift, 35"s and built 345 that needs lockers. I need to build another full size rig.

This is true. Either way you slice it they're both good tires.

What interior noise? While stock, I didn't hear anything inside.

Looks good, but it is too clean. Rub some dirt on it.

I helped rebuild the Scout from the tires up for my best friend's son. 11 months later and it's still PITA. Old trucks are fun. We pulled it apart Jan 1 2012. The last niggle is a malfunctioning fuel gauge....but it makes about 365 HP and 425 lb ft of tq now with a 4 spd manual. I spent a few hours under it today.

This and you are getting more these days from top to bottom, and the value retained by jeeps is pretty good. I do laugh when people say the Sahara is the 'top of the line'
iirc 2004-5ish rubicon was 36-37k

imo its not bad at all. its nothing like the wifes '12 grand cherokee, but for what it is i think with the hardtop on its very livable, even with my M/Ts on.

from what i have heard / read you will have complaints when you need to change them out in 15k miles, and cant find any.

i came very close to the MTR/Ks when i was shopping for my M/Ts but went with nitto trail grappers because the MTR/Ks seem to have a piss poor life span and goodyear for some reason doesnt know how to keep them on the shelfs.

Needs winch behind bumper. Them wheels gonna get shredded in the rocks It's cool, streetlocks look better with some rash on them.

What lift is that? Evap skid installed? Engine Skid? If you are gonna play in the rocks you better get some rocker armor ASAP.

Piss poor life span and performance in the rocks often go hand in hand. My Toyo's may last forever but they aren't sticky either. The MTR's are available all over right now I know they ran out this summer though.

the '12 and on already gets the WA580 transmission (same as the GC). It wouldn't be hard at all for Chrysler to offer the 5.7L as a $3k option as that's the combo available in the GC already. Same transmission in my SRT8 with 6.4L even.

The difference of a decade between my '02 and '12 is amazing.

The two door is has quite a bit more pep, I think for the four door, definitely a consideration should be made for more power since it does feel sluggish.

AEV bumpers don't weigh the 2door down too much
