Default The Midwest Rally Thread

Hey all... five of us?

Not sure if anyone realized, but for us in central Ohio, there are about 7-8 rally races a year that are within 8 hours of road tripping.

Does anyone go to them?

The next one is the McCreary Gravel Rally, April 26-27.

Hey, make that SIX of us

Hello returning NASIOC member from waaaaaaaaaaay back when. I used to live in NYC and have an old 1996 Impreza OBS that some fellas (RalliSpec) dropped a STI Type RA drivetrane into around 1999... for a while I was one of the few kids on teh block with a WRX... fast forward a few decades and I'm back on this forum and living in Ohio. I also felt a jonesing for another 90's Impreza with an STI drivetrane, so I recently purchased this 2000 RS conversion and wanted to check back into the scene, starting locally. I saw your post about the rally and it sounds like a great event to try and hit! I used to live in Maine as well and attended a few rallies there and it was awesome! I might not make the McCreary Gravel Rally, but wanted to find out if folks are planning to go. just in case. It's about 4 hours south of me (Dayton, OH).

Rock on everyone!

-Lou

Good to see you, Lou. You have an even better reason to try to go, bring you’re only a few hours away from it. I think I’ll be driving through cincy to go to this one.

The next after that is going to be the southern Ohio forest rally, June 6-8. I plan to volunteer there like I did last year.

I'll definitely be trying to hit that one!

If I do, I'll reach out to hopefully see you there!

3 rallies in Missouri. Everybody knows the one, but we'd sure like to get a better turnout for MOR in July. At least ten cars would be nice.

I'll be at SOFR driving the zero car. Might try for volunteering at Bristol or LSPR later in the year.

Nice!

I’m going to go to the show me rally in November. I got an extra floating holiday at work and think I’m getting an extra week this coming year anyways. And I see that rally is within my self imposed 8 hour drive window.

Hopefully all six of you are planning to attend 100AW this year. We could use some more volunteers. https://rally101.100aw.org/volunteerinformation/

Unfortunately, or fortunately... Not sure how you see it. I'm planning a trip to Japan at the end of the year. Paired with needing a new engine in the WRX, I'm going to skip all rallies this year. That frees up about $2400 for the trip.

Besides that, maybe it's because I'm so antisocial, but I haven't really felt appreciated as a volunteer. Long hours especially ruins my mood. Last year at snowdrift, we were the 2nd or third stage of the night and they had us out there in the windy freezing cold like 2 hours before necessary... before the road was even closed to the public!
Makes me feel like my safety doesn't really matter.

I'll have to volunteer again this time; last time down there was ~12 years ago; the one where the roads were so muddy everyone was getting their cars stuck everywhere
