I got a 2000 STI wagon V7, the chassis model number is GGBA5EH, I was wondering if I can upgrade my brake kits to brembo or other racing kits? Thanks!

Did you read the FAQ? If you had an STI wagon you should have the Subaru 4-pots. I would stick with those.

Question:

Is it possible to bed in brakes on a dyno or simply have them on a jack/rack and do the process?

It is quite difficult for people (especially in southern California) to find a place to bed in brakes properly (without getting busted by a cop).

I don't think so. No remote areas where a guy can go- your not talking reckless speeds for most bed ins- most only need to get up to 60ish

Yes and no. 60ish is high speed for local streets, and it's definitely not very doable on freeways...

Why isn't it possible to bed in on a dyno?

You could put the car on stands off the ground and achieve the same results. It's only heat cycles you're looking at. (I was going to say a jack but I see some problems there...) Just don't over do it as you won't have a ton of air flow. Unless you fan it.

Ok after reading all this I feel like the title should be "StopTech ..why there the Best" ... Not BBK FAQ.

How about reviewing some Kits?

And I would love to hear why STOPTECH would put DNF for AP Racing? ..what the hell is that for? Did the car fail? There is life outside Stoptech.

I wouldn't hesitate a second to purchase a Brembo (grand turismo) or AP kit

This is for general tech, not for reviews. We have a whole forum for reviews.

The DNF was for a given team running AP Racing. It doesn't mean anything about ALL AP Racing calipers or that the company sucks. It probably means that the team that chose them just happened to break their car for some reason.

Yes there is life outside of Stoptech. I even say
"Now - admittedly this is StopTech's website. But StopTech doesn't make any outrageous claims. The stock RSX in that comparison was on Michelin Pilot MXM4's - an all season tire. It did 60-0 in 132 feet. Of the two StopTech shod cars, one was on Hoosiers (very sticky) and one was on Advan A032R's (also very sticky). So you'd expect them to stop noticeably shorter than the stock car on all seasons."

The fact is, some cars on race tires with BBK's lost to a stock RSX on stock tires. The implication is, braking faster is not as simple as throwing on the biggest calipers you can find. Someone buying AP's probably knows that, but you never know.

Anybody have dependable data on the benifits of brake ducts? Something like the RCE kit or similar? Do they really work? List of known benifits? Other options?

What I do want to know is what pads they were running for each kit during those tests, though.

I wouldn't run track days w/o them personally. No empirical data to provide (wish I had laser pyrometer to document it), but they clearly reduce brake temps.

Added two new FAQ's

Drilled rotors *must* be good for track use! Porsche/BMW/Lamborghini use them on their cars!

But if you cast the holes in place, it should be better than drilling them, right?

I find this hard to believe because when you're on stands, you're only stopping wheels, which weigh what, like 40 pounds a pop with a tire? You're not stopping the car which weighs 3000ish.

I've been looking for a good how-to on replacing the 4-pot pads and rotors, and the 2 pot rear pads but haven't found it. Anyone got a link?

This is a complete 4-pot caliper install but it includes fitting the pads
