My box is a the wire in box with the adapter harness so my input/output configuration may be different than yours and I have a few more I/O than you if you are getting the plug in version.

On my box there is a separate plug in 4-wire harness connected to AN11 for your WB O2 sensor which makes that install pretty easy. Since we no longer use the MAF I modified the harness and wired my IAT and oil pressure sensors into the stock harness and just re-assigned them in software. I wired my fuel pressure sensor into the harness in place of the passenger side TGV feedback and my turbo speed sensor is wired into the passenger side intake cam position sensor. For everything else I ran separate shielded twisted pair cables back to the ECU for each sensor. I kept stock low oil pressure switch in the front oil galley wired up because that doesn't go through the ECU anyways just grounds indicator light in the dash cluster. When you get your box feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

Thanks Man - I will take you up on that offer. I know you have the link version, but is it the plug n play ECU or the V88 style?

I didn't realize that it didn't make it (OP Switch) all the way back to ecu. Interesting.

This is pretty pathetic that I have a piece of paper that says I'm an electrical engineer, and i'm a little confused where the twisted pair comes in. From both of my gauges I have power, ground, 0-5v, and serial. Do i need to run the ground back to the ECU also so it has a way to reference the 0-5V? I figured that it would use the ECU ground for a reference point.

Just looked at the pinout for the plugin that I am getting, and this is what I came up with

Aux6, 7, 8 are available. ( Fuel Pump Speed, and TGV open / Close)
Aux inj 5 is available ( purge solenoid)
Analog An Volt 4, 5, 8 are available, plus the AN11 dedicated for a wideband. ( TGV position, left / right ) and MAF signal. MAF signal might be a good one to hook into something that is pretty critical, since it has those nice shielded wires.

Thanks again

For all my 3 wire sensors (+5V, gnd, 0-5Vdc) I wired into the stock harness using the stock wiring. I only used the twisted shielded pair for my two wire thermistors, two wire reluctor cam position sensor, and two wire 0-5v EGT output (check out exhaust gas technologies)

I do have the V88 style box and I have extra grounds in my wiring harness to ground shields and to ground sensors and I just run the 0-5Vdc to the AMP plug on the ECU.

I may suck at my explanations but I do instrument controls and automation for a living so I do better than I can explain. Proper grounding is important for accurate readings. I'd be much happier if the ECU could take 4-20ma signals instead of 0-5Vdc

Thanks for the heads up. Why would that be better? Less current loss through wire vs voltage loss?

I was talking with Mike at innovative tuning today, sounds like I've still got a long road ahead of me. Plan on having the vipec here by the end of the month, but then ill have to get my car to new York for a base tune, which is a day and a half ordeal. Trailer it back home, break in for 1000-1500 miles then trailer back it there. Sounds like a good time to take a couple days off from work and familiarize myself with some fun roads.

Don't think I want to go for a trip and get broke down in between A and B.

I've got nearly everything dongle that I can before my exhaust comes. Don't think ill make it to Matthew Markers Memorial cruise in my car, maybe a buddies.

I cannot hardly stand it I'm so close, not with excitement either. All I can picture is blowing up on the dyno and having to start all over. About the only critical.steps I've done that would really affect much is install my heads and timing belt, which I'm fairly certain head studs went in fine once I figured out where the torque lube went and I had an exhaust cam that didn't want to rotate as smooth as the others, so I tried an exacting knife and some steady hands to deburr an edge. All of the buckets and valves and all that jazz were setup from the Guy before me, and he had no issues so that leaves timing.belt. . . Which I can give that a visual at any time.

Whew. Still a nervous wreck.

4-20 ma signals are more resistant to EMI interference, proper grounding is less of am issue, and if you have multiple instruments for the same sensor you just wire them in series and they will all read the same regardless of reference ground.

In the industrial world 0-5V or 1-5V signals are rarely used in modern facilities.

If you hadn't checked out the egt technologies website this is what I picked up to integrate my EGT and oil temp sensors into my Link. They have 1,2,4, & 8 channel thermocouple amps that output 0-5v signals that you can wire into your Vipec.

I'm going to run an EGT in each exhaust bank until I get my oil pan welded up with a fitting that will exept my T/C

That's pretty neat. I have not checked into those.

Are you monitoring all 4 runners for curiosity sakes or will you be using them for a failsafe situation?

I know you can tell a little bit with lean conditions and stuff like that from EGT temps, but I haven't learned enough to be intelligent talking about them.

I have all the runners tapped for probes but I won't have enough analog inputs to run 4 at a time. I can run two at time and I'll probably move them around for tuning and just pick the highest one to monitor constantly.

I'm not sure if I'll use EGT for any fail-safes but since I don't have any gauges I want to be able to data log it and have it available if I get the display link

Good stuff, I'm going to look into that for down the road I think.

In other news, the exhaust got paid for yesterday and ill be sending Innovative Tuning my money for vipec on Tuesday. Got tied up today or I would have gotten the money out the door today.

Looking like labor day weekend will live up to its name. Then the task is to find a trailer to make the 7 hr haul.

I used a Uhaul car hauler to take my car from Cedar to Detroit a month ago. Uhaul charges $72 for a 2 day period, one way.

That's not too bad, I just don't know if those are plated for Canada, I figure it'd be fine cause they have no jurisdiction really. I cannot really do one way though cause I need to trailer it there and back, cause I do not want to be stranded on the side of the road in Canada should my car break down.

I am hoping to borrow a trailer from work / a buddy to move it around. A nice two axle with the fold down ramp would be ideal.

You'll be cool renting the trailer. i rented one from a uhaul in Ontario Canada dropped my car off at IAG, then returned the trailer to uhaul down the road. the trailer was from Kansas
I only paid $59 for a one way 3 day rental...

I would make sure it has trailer brakes. I pulled my XTI to Detroit with my Tundra and I could definitely feel the weight but it towed so well on the car hauler and with the trailer brakes no sweat stopping. Where in Canada are you taking it? So you're in Muskegon? Good luck with all this!

I am hoping to find on a trailer brakes because that helps a lot. With what limited trailering experience I do have, it does make a huge difference.

I am actually calling it through canada to get to buffalo new york, I live up in cadillac, but I will be leaving flint area early in the morning too hopefully only make it a 2 day deal. My step dad has a tundra and I really like that truck, it does pull very nice. I have a 2011 1500 chevy and it does okay, the 5.3 doesn't have quite enough balls though

I live just north of Cedar and Maple City near Lime Lake, 3 miles from Good harbor bay, 15 miles from Leland and 30 from Northport. I have a 2002 Tundra with a towing package, it's a smaller 1/2 ton but has good grunt and it runs like the day I bought it with 180K on the clock. It's seen a lot of towing and does it well for a 5000 lb. truck. Where in Buffalo are you taking it?

Thats pretty cool dude, We'll most certainly have to meet up here real soon. I love Forester XTs, and have never really been in a quick one, so that would be fun.

It is going to Innovative Tuning.

For sure man! I am sometimes through your town and down through GR but not much lately, but if you're coming up this way give me a shout. My XTI is truly a labor of love like most of our rides on here. Ive done the full mechanical STI swap+++. Jr tuned it a few weeks ago after I swapped out some stuff, added Tial MV-R EWG, Killer B header and a few more to my already extensive list of bolt on mods. It made 330 WHP & 350 WTQ on 93 and 360 WHP & 443 WTQ on E85 on a 90 degree day. The Stock STI clutch hated it, I think it would have made more torque and HP on E85 but clutch could not hold it. But probably won't swap the clutch out until I do the motor. I've bought into Dom's/ MPS 2.5 long rod group buy and will be most likely doing that motor swap this winter. Then most likely going with a PTE 5862 Vband in/out rotating/ modding my KB uppipe and modding the Cobb DP to fit. It should be pretty strong with that snail

Well, if you're coming through Cadillac from up there, you're within 4 miles of my house. I live right on M55.

Thats pretty fun with the Dom GB, I was pretty geeked to see that and I know for some reason he struggled to sell them even though it was a heck of a motor. I would love to come up and help if you need it!

I checked for a thread from you to show a dyno graph or something from your tune, but I didn't see one. Do you have a graph by chance? Assuming My car doesn't grenade, you will be able to see if the 5862 is the right one for you, cause I'm doing the 6262, and there is a big jump from the VF48 to the 6262, so you'll get a decent feel for it

What clutch are you thinking about going to? Once she's dialed in, you can drive my car to get a feel for the lag / clutch grab to make some decisions. I know it would have been nice to know what i'm getting into, without having any big hp subies around me with people I know... it's kinda like, hmmm, this will work so lets run with that. The 6puck ACT will be really grabby I know, but I just hope it's not 100% miserable.

Will Junior tune the MPS motor again for the new turbo?

Oh yeah, Jr. told me when he drove it after the tune that it felt quicker than his XTI's VF version which went 11.8. We may never know! Jr. you out there?

Thanks for the offer of help and I may take you up on it. I will definitely take you up on the data and possibly a test ride in your car once it's done! I know it's a big jump from a VF to the PTE 5862 but no way I was going bigger than a VF on my stock block. I've pushed it very hard as it is now with Jr's tune/ E85 timing and associated torque so we will see how long it lasts. It's also had a very strong tunes prior to this one with a couple different exhaust manifolds over the last 3 years. I am not into beating my chest over dyno stuff but may put up some graphs from the sessions with Jr. There is a big slip in the graphs from my clutch bailing at 443 WTQ

I know everything will happen later with the new motor and PTE turbo but the power band will extend way farther right. I am most likely going with the D25 heads with MPS stg 3 and Kelford 199B cams. Similar to binjoau's build, so it will be nice to see how the 5862 compares to a GTX3576 and to a EFR7670. I think with the compression and cams I will not need much boost to make power.

Clutch wise I am thinking ACT EXT sprung full disc but maybe sprung 6 puck. My friends that have the 6 puck say they are not that bad for a DD.

Either Dom or Jr is what I am hoping for tuning wise. Dom comes into Chicago and tunes for some buds there. If that does not work Jr is at P&L almost every other week for a few days those weeks.

No problem dude. I do wish there were more completed Gtx and EFR builds to really get a feel for how they respond. I think the PTE lines make.more.power for their size at the sacrifice of spool. I haven't studied them apples to apples but that's what I've noticed. Also - as described in the EFR manifesto if you will, those turbos like higher boost, so me only running 22-25 psi wouldn't show the true Colors of the EFR. But from what the foos and Bariga showed, you don't need a ton of boost.

Speaking of Bariga's ... build it turned out great but he's also got the cats meow for a motor, I'm really excited to see Kellys once Borg gets their head out of butt.

Binjous build is fun too. Also eager for.him to get a 6 speed before he turns er up.
