Default Westheimer Last Night: BMW + Me + Bike = Crash!!

Last night when i was going home, i pulled up to the light at Wilcrest & Westheimer. I guess some ghetto looking chic in a early model BMW thought i wanted to race?. Now why she wanted to race a corolla i have no idea? But reguardless when the light turned green, she took off and i followed with a 750 Katana pulling up from behind me, he tried to catch up the the bmw girl, but by the time he did, it was too late. I saw them fight for the next lane as another car tryed to come across westheimer, she zigged right, he zagged left, bad idea. Next thing i know i can hear screeching over my stereo, and i can just see it happening in my mind. Just when i thought he had enough room to stop, BAM! right into the side of a BMW X5. He flipped over the top of the bike, hit the X5 with his back and landed right there on westheimer. I was almost on top of him by the time i hit my brakes. I hit my hazards and hopped out to make sure he was ok. He seemed real dazed but un-hurt from the looks of it. You should have seen the X5 though, he bent the whole rear wheel underneith the suv. We helped him move the bike off the road, which was completely totaled in the front. All i could think as i drove away was man i hope he has insurance, that bemmer isn't going to be cheap to fix. BTW the chic in the other bemmer, didn't even stop.

No argument here, very stupid to not wear a helmet at minimum.

Nothing surprises me about bikers in Houston anymore. Every time I turn around, there's a guy on a bike with no helmet, in shorts and a t-shirt.

There was two BMW's involved. One was racing the bike, the other just was in hte wrong place at the wrong time.

Usually a girl can be found on their back with shorts and a t-shirt as well Every now and then you see one where the guy gives them a helment but they just hold it in their lap Guess hairs more important then brain damage to some people.

not to make light of a serious issue, but that first statement, up to the rolleyes guy, just cracks me up if you read it out of context "Where are these girls!?" is the question I come up with get it?.. o.k., maybe only I thought that was funny .. I know you meant passengers, but.. ya know.. girls, shorts-n-T's, on their backs... c'mon folks, that's good stuff

Seriously though, I do see that too, you're right, for so many of them, it's all about how they look on the bike.

Before I got my first motorcycle, I was told "dress for the fall, since pavement hurts a whole lot worse than your pride will for being perceived as 'un-cool'". I never ride w/out a helmet, an armored jacket, and (no laughing!) armored pants (meaning pants with pads in the hips, knees, butt... yes, it sounds funny ).
