Just Sharing... 2013 CVT PZEV filled up tonight.. 364 miles - 13.265 = 27.44 This was 85% / 15% Hghy/city. Always reset AVG trip display which showed 30.03 when I pulled in to get gas. Can honestly say car never went above 3500 rpm. You guys are okay with this? I am not. Best part is as usual after refilling drove about 16miles home and bye the time I pulled into garage the AVG MPG shows 38+, but by my next refill, will prob be at an abismal 27 again. And I have to stae my driving habbits are very consistent. That is why firstly I dont bother with the AVG MPG display, and secondly why I am sooo pissed!!! Oh man

What's the best/most accurate way to do an odometer test? Mile markers? GPS? Seems like the dash is generally 1.5 to 2.5 off.
GPS and i also cross-check the route against Googlemaps. both have always seemed very consistent and suggest about 3% longer distance than reported by the odometer.

Ditto. I've found that with my adjusting the on dash gauge & accounting for the 2.94% (2.74% can't quite remember) odometer error my Avg MPG gauge is usually within .5 miles accurate so I've stopped hand calculating.

Good post in another thread on the tune of the FB engine:

I had to wrestle with the program a bit before I got it working, but we'll just call that operator error. Anyone that's more computer savvy shouldn't have a problem.

This one.. Co-incidentally, I was reading that thread last night, and was wondering when that table might make it over to this forum.

yeah that didn't take long, now if the 50000000 other threads by new impreza owners asking about modding their ride could all be wiped and a hughe search sign put up in its place that would be awesome.

All we need is for people to start messing with the fuel maps and also have oil consumption issues. That is where Subaru will draw the line and not fix your short block under warranty. You will see.

SOA can tell if you flashed your ECU and reverted back to stock. There is a checksum bit that they can check.

i am hoping that by the time my warranty is up, there will be something out there, not really looking for more performance but a little better fuel control would be nice.

Latest tank on my Impreza yielded 34.5mpg (hand-calculated). My lifetime average is now 32.2mpg.

As usual, the car is a 5MT pzev.

My trip meter is off 2.7% says an out and back I just took. Trip says 48 miles, Google and GPS say 49.3 miles.
That means my latest Fuelly fill at 28 is actually 28.756.
Also interesting was observing MPG during low traffic, few lights and strictly speed limit, about 1/3 45mph and 2/3 65mph.
Trip out said 39.3 avg mpg.
Trip back said 39.6 avg mpg.
Even with factoring in the usual 2.5 mpg over optimistic dash reading, those are great numbers.
This car is awesome and I have pictures to prove it.

That's funny. Just because someone posts a lot doesn't mean what they post is relevant or accurate. Take all the posts by people with manual trannies that are critical of people with CVT's talking about the CVT not getting advertised gas mileage. They're just ignorant.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great car. However, it's the first new car I've bought in my life with an automatic transmission and to find out the manual actually gets better fuel economy than the POS CVT is kind of hard to take. I've been ripped off buying it because of that and I'd be getting further ripped off by selling it now that it's used - so when some moron comes along with asinine statements about I shouldn't complain because the car gets into the mixed range when on the highway while there is a lot of information around that shows the advertising is false, and I know that by comparing with other cars I've driven as well, they have zero credibility no matter how many posts they've had. Flyboy fits that mold and proves it other ways all the time as well.

just crossed 9000 miles on the odometer (lately putting on nothing more than suburbia slow driving which sees me averaging around 20MPH and getting 25ish MPG).

overall stats are:

Computer: 29.4MPG, 26 MPH average
Fuelly: 28.6 MPG, adjusted for 3.2% odometer error

i haven't seen a huge increase in mileage since the early days of my car even as i approach 10k.

the biggest improvement i saw was switching my vent mode away from having defrost always on for a couple of months in early winter which really killed my fuel economy.

i probably should have the dealer dial back the MPG calibration on the computer. yet somehow, i must love the optimistic numbers which are always about 1 MPG off (after adjusting for my odometer error which is pretty spot on 3.2% underestimates from the several checks i've done with GPS and google maps)

SMDH...you never quit do you?!?! First of all the guy I was referring to said "go away" with nothing before or after that, so how exactly is that relevant?? That's what I was referring to when I said not to worry about him. When someone has very few posts over a long period of time, then comes in out of nowhere and just says "go away" he's a moron, especially when he won't respond to people questioning why he said that.

Second of all, you REALLY need to stop with this "false advertising" crap. EVERY single time you post about your MPG's you make it sound as though that EVERY CVT Impreza gets lousy gas mileage, and that is not true. But honestly, how many times are you going to come into the forum and cry about it....when is enough, enough?

You're not paying attention. I'm not posting about my mpg's. I'm talking about the mpg's obtained with standardized real world tests vs. what Subaru claims in their alleged EPA testing.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and if the beholder is happy getting 40 mpg at 50 mph, good for them. They have a right to ignore that fact that any typical 30 mpg EPA highway vehicle will do that too. It doesn't mean I'm going to coddle them.

It's not false advertising if the vehicle performs as expected in a very rigid test. And it's 39.something at 65.
Wtf is "standardized real world"?
Setting expectations based on previous vehicles with similar ratings isn't necessarily foolish but crying about endlessly is.

What about current vehicles with similar ratings? Not trying to add fuel to the fire just asking though.

Simply put most of the equally rated FWD counterparts are pulling averages of around 29-31. Those barely scraping 25 are wondering why this car can't achieve these numbers with the same type of driving even with all factors considered.
