Shift Kit On an Impreza L??

I was just wondering if you could put a shift kit on an Impreza L. Would it be worth it. I don't know to much about AT's, so if you guy's could enlighten me that'd be great;

1. Would I have to get a special one, I know a lot of muscle car guys use them.

2. The car that it would be going on is tracked (road coarse) a lot, would this be an advantage/disadvantage, how so?

3. Is the install easy?

4. How much to they generally cost.

He's asking about a shift kit as in the modified valve bodies sold for GM's that firm up the shift pressure and change the shift points. Generally these have been available for the older hydraulically operated transmissions, the newer electronically controlled ones like the 4EAT are another matter. I'm not really familiar with the trans on the L ('95 right?) but I'm assuming it's electronic.
I haven't seen anyone offering them for Subarus but that doesn't mean they don't exist. It would be a limited market though.
Yes you would need one made specifically for that trans, they are not universal or interchangeable.

depending on the kit you go with, transgo, or a level 10 jobber. It can be done. the transgo kit is about 60 bucks. Tearing the trans apart is what will be expensive.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while, might want to do it....otherwise I'd just keep driving it.

Thanks for all your help/info. Just a FYI, the car isn't a street car so I wasn't gonna be worried about daily driving, it's a race car.

Anyway, this past weekend it was decided that the car is getting a 5spd swap anyway.

is this kit like a street/strip type or is it just a strip kit.

The kit is a shift kit......use it where you want....really don't matter. The kit fixes some of the short comings of the factory setup. A level ten setup may be a little more firm....I really don't know for sure....Just taking a guess.

On my car the biggest difference was the 1-2 shift and it firming up dramatically.
