2008 impreza wrx with EJ20x/y
Hi all, I'm from the UK and currently in canada travelling across from West to east, I originally have a motorhome but decided to sell up and go for a car and tent now it's in the warmer months, having problems and whenever I google issues nasioc comes up in Google so I figured this is the place to get help.
After selling the motorhome I picked up a 2008 impreza wrx sedan which I had a pre-purchase inspection at canadian tire who didn't end up doing a full inspection and missed alot of issues since the previous owner took the car in late and we were never told til after we purchased the car. I thought it was stock but turns out it has a ej20 and not the stock ej255 and I think it's the ej20x/y as it has the intake and exhaust solenoids on both sides, but anyway it looks to be a pretty sloppy swap as alot of clips/bolts were missing but also a few breather and vacuum pipes were off, which I have rectified. Issues I'm having is it if I put my foot down, I hit a wall at 4500rpm but like a violent wall and CEL light flashes and won't go past 4500rpm, even in neutral and I rev it, won't go past 4500rpm. When I start it from cold it starts then dies and I have to start in again and it'll run fine, today I started it and it and cel lights flashed with revs up and down then died. It's on the impreza stock TD04L and the stock impreza ecu which I assume has been flashed to run the ej20.

I think it's fuel cut as I can go wot in every gear up til 4500rpm and also when it cuts at 4500rpm I cab hear relays clicking that are under the glove box, which is sure I read are for fuel.
I cleaned maf and checked coils, still nothing and if I hit that 4500rpm limiter a few times the car bogs and has zero power then stalls, and I try to restart it and it'll just stall again and that happens a few times bit will eventually start again and be fine. When that does happen the traction control light stays on til it does actually start again and run fine. |

Driving today and it just died, lights and dials went abit crazy then shut off, turn ignition on and everything lights up but temp gauge shoots up to hot even after the engine is cold, try to start it and doesn't even crank.
It's currently sitting in a canadian tire carpark while we're in a hotel. |

Check the 15A fuses behind the glovebox near the floor. I had this same issue no crank and temp shot to hot. Checked those and replaced one since it was blown. Thinking a loose engine wiring harness or loose ground caused it to blow. But it is a temporary fix to get you somewhere.
